Yeah, they got that whole cluster from their partner Mercedes. I think is a little too luxurious for a Corvette. Corvette should have a more sport minded interior, I wouldn't want to see wood inside for example, just certain things don't fit in a world class sports car like the Corvette. At least that's my opinion.
I would imagine the C6 radio will be the same one as in the Cadillac XLR.
It's a 7" color screen with DVD navigation and can play pack DVD movie's. It could also serve as a backup camera display with a color camera mounted in the license area. Satellite radio will be available also.
I'm all for the nav system. I love it. I have one in my caddy, and it saves me so much time, you have no idea. People who don't like them probably haven't ever driven with one. They say "get a map" Well...I have a map....it displays a map of my location on the screen all the time. I can scroll around to other locations, zoom in and out, and even have it guide me to my destination by voice. When someone gives me an unfamiliar address I just enter it and follow the directions. I check the map when I get there and I've learned a new place. Or I can just have it generate a list of directions and then shut off the nav system so I can drive on my own. For anyone who ever drives to someplace new it's awesome. I think it should be an option.
I've been waiting for the Corvette to get a NAV system. The Corvette is a sports car of the future and uses many high tech things in it. So why not a NAV system? I say a big YES!
I too was among those that thought NAV systems were expensive toys, until I got one in an Acura ... They work, they are helpful. Goin' someplace new .... just punch in the address and follow the directions. Need to find a nearby restaurant .. ATM ... gas station ... etc ... No problem. Real soon now, real-time traffic data will be integrated with the NAV systems. I don’t get lost in unfamiliar areas and never even give it a thought.
I really mis the NAV in the Vette, well worth the typical $2K cost

I am kinda on the fence about this one. I would rather see GM spend the money on something else.
What would it cost? It's not like they have to develope one? They already install one in the cadillacs. It's made by Denso. They would just have to offer it as an option on the vette. It wouldn't cost anything for them to do it, and it would probably run between 1000 and 2000 dollars on the options sheet. I think it's a great idea.
Keep it out, the vette is a sports car not a luxury car, keep weight down
What makes you think a NAV system would make the Corvette a luxury car? With that kind of thinking then power leather seats, CD changer stereo system, run flat tires, auto trans, Telescopic Steering wheel, etc., makes it a luxury car. A NAV system when you think about it, is nothing more than a safety option. Directions, fastest routes, food/gas locations. I feel it is something that should be in every car in the 21st Century.

I agree. I don't want any of those things (and I only have the power leather seats because they're in the base car), except runflat tires because they *have* saved me. ;)
Seriously, a nav system is fine, as long as it's not intrusive and it has physical buttons to operate it. Touch screens require sight to operate; drivers operate controls by feel alone. It's especially important that it doesn't Borg the rest of the controls -- leave my audio and HVAC alone.
