Some people may not agree but I like the SSR's interior, I think some things may carry over to the C6. Not everything. Now, don't get me wrong, I like it for the type of car the SSR is, I don't think it would work for the Corvette, but some things might... like the gauges on the center console, and the painted center driver/passenger separator thingy (whatever it's called). I also like the aluminum touches which are rumored will be on the C6.
I like the aluminum looking shift plate... kinda like what they had on the 68/69 corvettes... its very classy if you ask me and breaths life into the interior. Ferrari does the same thing with their console shift plates... Just my $.02 but Corvette needs the crhome/amluminum shift plates again :chevy
On another note.... when the new camaros/firebirds come back they better have the console mounted guages like in the 67-69... that was a Awesome idea! Come on Chevy preeeeetty pleaassse !
I have a really bad sense for these types of things so someone enlighten me... I know that the C5 has some cheap materials inside the interior, but what is so bad about it??? someone please tell me. And i think the Brushed aluminum looks good and would be nice on the C6...

Apparently to save money, GM traditionally has built interiors from textured plastic. Very little in the way of the contrasting materials like brushed aluminum or the even the hideous faux wood grain you find in other marques. GM has tried to keep costs down by using the same plastic with different hues and textures to give the impression of leather surfaces or a pebble grain or such. As Car and Driver put it, "..the C5's Rubbermaid interior..." A very apt insult that applies to virtually every GM car. I just got an '03 Tahoe and the interior looks like it was done by Tupperware. It even makes the leather seats look artificial in context with all of PVC in the cabin.
If you look at some of the C5 competitors - the M3, TT or the Boxster you see cars with beautiful interiors with contrasting and complementary materials and tones working together. The vette hasn't really had that since the painted metal dashboards of the Mid Year C2s, 35 years ago. It just isn't the GM way anymore.
I have to say that those pics of the SSR are some of the nicest interior looks I've seen come out of GM in the last quarter century. So much, that I find it hard to believe they were done by GM.
I like an all-black interior. Black hides dirt and imperfections, and a monotone interior doesn't distract the eye from what matters -- what's going on outside the car.
The hard stereo/HVAC surround is really the only piece in the C5 with which I'm unhappy -- it's not pleasing to the touch. Everything else is fine. It's a Corvette, not a Cadillac -- I don't need cows, and I don't want metal. Worst of all, I don't want plastic that's so embarassed to be plastic that it tries to be metal -- leave that crap to Revell.

Dude you just enlightened me to what they where talking about. I get it i had always known they where cheap and had thought the vette interior was a tad too similar to the camaros...
Thanks, BoB
Having an all-black interior for hiding dirt and imperfections? Us vette owners would never let such a thing happen... thats a big :nono: On another not I found the all black interioir to be lifeless and depressing .. I need me some color! :hurray:
I am the opposite on black interiors, I really don't like them. Some colors work well with black others really don't. You cantake two identical outside colors and change the interior color, one will look very expensive and classy, the other will look bland and cheap.
I personally will never own another car with black interior. I had one and just didn't like it, hot, sticky, and bland for my taste. Many people like black, and that is great for them, just not for me. My 85 with Graphite is too dark for me.
I think the C5 interior is total trash and very cheap. My daughters old Geo Metro is what comes to mind.
They better come up with something better than what is depicted here. I see many cars selling Zaino, and this one is not rising even close to the top of the list.

:iagree:
Mine is a daily driver, and it gets pretty dirty sometimes. This gray interior seems to look cleaner far longer than the all black Z28 I traded in, and doesn't get nearly as hot.
I also think it would be nice to see some interesting materials used in future interiors, such as aluminum trim, etc. Maybe as an option, so those that prefer a more spartan look can have that too.
This is the very first time I agree with Butta. That's a nice looking interior and GM will do the Corvette a great service if the new interior is up to the SSR's standard.  :seeya
Whatever they did with the plastic on top of the C5's dash, I like it. Doesn't look or feel cheap. The surround for the center console? Crap. Plastic in the center of the steering wheel? Crap. Plastic on the doors? Crap.
I like the membrane switches on the doors. They're water-proof, they feel good, and they're functional. Same with the DIC switches and TC/AH button.
I don't want wood and I don't want brushed aluminium. They're overly trendy, ugly, and will seriously date the interior in a few years.
There are pieces of the interior of the SSR that I like and some that need more work. While I do not find the gauges or the center tunnel objectionable, the center console (stereo controls, etc.) is a different story. It looks like a last minute add-on and doesn't flow well with the rest of the dash, like it was designed by another team.
I don't want wood accents in a Vette, but I have no problem with higher quality plastics or brushed aluminum accents. I do not think that metal will appear any more "dated" than any other combination of cheap plastics will.
I never liked the face-plate for the stereo in my C5, either. It's the exact same face-plate as in my father's 2000 Monte Carlo. If the stereo face-plate in a Cavilier or a Monte Carlo set the standard for the industry as far as asthetics and design, then sure, put it in the Vette. But it doesn't. It looks cheap and very dated compared to other cars.
Make a world-class HVAC or stereo control system that sets the bar for asthetics in the Corvette first, and then I wouldn't have a problem sharing these components with Chevy's entry level cars for cost savings. Don't do it the other way around, especially for a $45k-55k car.
Another point is that the C5 interior isn't all that bad to begin with, with the exceptions folks have mentioned previously. I love the gauges in the C5 - the lighting is perfect and the 3-d layered look is outstanding. The "waterfall" on the convertible is also a nice touch. I just want GM to continue to improve the quality of the interior and set the bar for others to aspire to. From what we have read, I am sure that GM is moving in this direction.
Thank you very much for posting the pictures of the interior of the SSR. They are very intriguing!
The aluminum shifter console and the chrome shifter in my fathers 69 BB vert isnt overly trendy and ugly and hasn't seriously dated the interior and thats over some 34 years :D If you ask me it lights up and accents the dark interioir and is part of what makes the sharks so great...as well as the midyears. Brushed aluminum or chrome like on the Ferrari's shift consoles is what I'm talking about. The way they did it in the SSR is almost gaudy and thats putting it lightly. On another note I noticed in one of the pics there are console mounted guages like on the 69 camaro, I'd love to see that make a comeback and its very cool  ! The inside of a stock C5 doesn't really have alot to look at ( wich shouldn't be an issue for 45-55,000$ )
and I teased all teh otherse with this fake crap. but I dont want that on a vette anyhow.

:withstupid:   wood on a sports car doesnt work I could deal with some carbon fiber grey/black look but all in all the C5 interior isnt so bad at all go look at alot of other cars... yup even those "great BMW's" they have alot of black plastic, heck on the 3 series leather isnt even standard... you get pleather last I checked. point is I would rather stay away from the chrysler and lincoln and mitsu fake plastic wood sitckered crap... I mention these cause I have been in them all recently :nono: while I prefer a more 2 tone interior I dont want any fake crap, if its plastic well then so be it plastic. I have owned 2 caddys in the 90's and both had real wood was
