Default Why wait 2 years?

SO ive seen lots of talk of this but i dont see what the big deal is about waiting till 2006. I agree that 84 had a lot of problems that 85 and 86 didnt have but were there that many problems with 1997 C5s? In this day and age wouldnt they have lots of the problems worked out before production. I mean i agree that every year they get a little better but that happens every year not just generation changes. So whats the big deal? How many people are actually going to wait a year...personally im gonna want a 2005.

That's the image that GM needs to improve/change. You think BMW or Mercedes owners worry about this stuff?? I doubt they want to wait an extra year for their M3's or E55's. It takes time to change people's feelings, hopefully GM keeps throwing out there quality products like the Vette.

There were a lot of (minor) problems with the 97s, nearly all fixed under warranty. Until perception based on GM's track record changes, many folks will wait a year or two for the bugs to be worked out.

There are still complaints about column lock, headlights, rocking seats, oil usage, and more....and the car has been in production for years! (Although, headlights aside, I have had pretty darn good experience with reliability concerning my 2000.)

Anyways, I'm still looking forward to the C6 - and I still love my C5!

It is always good to wait out the first year so that the manufacterer can get the bugs out, every manufacterer has to deal with first year bugs including BMW who had to stop production of first year M3's do to engine failures and Mercedes is barely scoring above average in JD power's quality surveys. :)

i don't mind being a c6 guinea pig and deal with the potential hassle, but I know I am in the minority.

Some are probably going to wait for the 2006 Z06 replacement.

Also there may be rush for the early C6s when they are first released that would drive prices up. If this happens prices will drop back a bit after a short time.

:withstupid:

It's a GM problem but it isn't unique to GM. Mazda is buying back first year RX8s because they don't make the advertised horsepower. Nissan had big Federal problems with the first year 350Z not making crash numbers with their production cars.

Personally, I'd wait on almost any car. There's 15,000 parts in an automoblie. If it's 99.9% perfect, there's still 15 things wrong with it.

Did I say BMW & Mercedes don't have problems or are more reliable than GM cars?? No I didn't. I was saying that people think that. And the only way to change that perception is by keep building quality products. People don't change their minds or believes overnight.

It's a GM problem but it isn't unique to GM. Mazda is buying back first year RX8s because they don't make the advertised horsepower.
Ford also had this problem with their 4.6 Mustang not reaching the 320HP they advertized in the first year of production.

Personally, I'd wait on almost any car. There's 15,000 parts in an automoblie. If it's 99.9% perfect, there's still 15 things wrong with it.
I think this is a matter of personal preference, not a prejudice against Corvette that is justifiable today. Also, don't forget howmany of those parts under the skin are C5 carryovers. If gouging and pricing allow, I will be getting a C6 in about a year. I hope you don't see me hear eating my words.

The 1997 had many problems. Noisy fuel pumps, rocking seats, leaky rear ends, sticky headlights (the 3 latter are still problems).

I know there are more, but I don't remember them.

If waiting until the bugs are worked out is such a great idea, why are dealers selling 2004 vettes for less than invoice?

Default No waiting here

I always get a 100K mile extended warranty with my vehicules, then drive them the way the should be driven (hard). If something breaks, I just bring it back to the dealer and say "fix it and give me a rental". Call it worry-free driving.

But waiting... :nono:

OH well... I have a 2002 with 19000 miles on it and it is rock solid. No leaks, no sticky headlights, no oil consumption. Just another great Chevy! :yesnod:

But see, with the improvements made each year, I kind of want to see what comes. The C5s now have more torque, HUD, and Millenium Yellow. Something that didn't exist in '97. The HUD is so cool, I won't buy a C5 unless it has one.

Sad part is the recent years have nearly as many problems as the 97. Some 2002's are excellent, some 97's are great. I love mine and think its everybit as good as the new ones, cept for the new features of course.

I would only wait to get a better deal or see new options (which the corvette seems to get quite a bit of over its generation life), not for tiny defects. The warranty will cover that. But, I do understand the reasons being stated here.

Ask most guys who bought a 2001 ZO6 if they would have waited another year if they knew what was comming in 2002, and don't get me started talking about another GM product the first year of the Duramax truck engine. After saying this, when they make a 500hp ZO6 they will have my loyalty for life, because thats how long I will probably be paying for it eventhough I won't be able to drop the top. :chevy

I'M not waiting...put a deposit on an '05 C6 back in June. My '00 has been rock solid...besides, I can't think of a better way to support the marque or GM!

I'm taking factory/museum delivery of MY C6 next summer... :hurray:

Do you mean MSRP? If you can find a new Vette for less than INVOICE, please email me. I would love to buy, oh, 20 of them or so....
