Default C6 Headlights.......

I guess the custom parts designers will be fast and hard at work in 2004 designing and making a hide-away head light kit for the C6 as one of the first mods available.

You know everyone says that the aftermarket will come out with pop-up kits the same way they came out with fixed headlight kits for the C5. Does anyone stop to consider that it might not be possible? When was the last time you saw a kit converting ANY car to pop-ups? Popups take a bit of room under the skin. You have to fit the motor and the mechanism to move the lights as well as the entire light and lense. All of that has to fit under a body panel. Given the shortened front end of the car, I wouldn't be surprised if there's no room at all. It's much much easier to go from pop ups to fixed lights. I honestly wonder if anyone will bother going the other way. So many people boldy announce that it will happen, but I have to wonder if they took any time to actually THINK about what they are proposing.

I agree with the above about it being very difficult. Although, I have a feeling the original post was facetious.

At any rate, I think the majority of people will love the new headlights once they see them on the finished product.

Maybe so but after 40 years of them being hidden it's going to look funny to see a vette without them IMO !

, yea, yea, yea:rolleyes:
Gee, no, none of us every thought of that. Actually WHO CARES. The point is, it WILL happen and someone will find a way.
Maybe there won't be room and maybe there will. There has to be room under there for the assembly that will be there right from the factory and the lights these days are tiny and will be getting even smaller, therefore less room needed.
Anyway, read the reply by Captain Morgan, who had a better understanding of my first post!
I don't care one way or another about the tlights, I own a C5 and will not own a C6 for years to come, if ever. It was all speculation of what I can just imagine happening, and it WILL happen. Someone will figure a way.

I'd bet on the exact opposite. I bet C5 owners will begin buying fixed headlamp kits to make them look more like C6es.

Oh, and I also predict sales plummetting for those retrofit bumpers for early C4s that convert the big round tailights to the late-C4 square ones.

I've been wanting fixed headlights for my C5. Fixed headlights inherently have less things that could go wrong with them, of course I want less problems! Add the lighter weight and HID lighting to the mix, and I'm sold. Now if only they could fix the leaky tops...

This has been discussed so many times, the topic is tired. One good idea mentioned on previous posts is that maybe there will be a kit that all you have to do is slide covers on and off. Manually or maybe automatically. Or maybe attach them on, a la "black out" covers.

My husband suggested that the first thing you might want to get for your C6 is 3M film cut to fit your fixed headlight lense. Just a thought!!! :D

:_dupe: from a long time ago, but from the looks of the headlights, that would require completely new front fenders, hood, bumper, and headlights.

Yep... I don't see it happening. :nonod:

I'm thinking aerodynamics here, I'd rather not have the pop ups.

I don't necessarily think that the headlights, when down, have a negative effect on aerodynamics.

I could be way off, but I don't think they test a car's fuel economy with its headlights both on and off. :skep:

I think the main reason they removed the popups was for weight savings and to move forward and evolve the Corvette. Popups, as traditional as they may be, are dated.

On a 1986 Celica they made a difference. Almost 5 mph top speed and a couple MPG as well. Me and my buddy ran a test on his car back in the day.

All I can say is, if it doesn't help the car perform better in some way, it doesn't belong on my car. Some people want looks, and they have their own tastes, so whatever, let them get whatever they want. I'm sure some people will want pop-ups just like some people want a Corvette that looks like a Ferrari or an older Vette. For me, I want a lighter and faster car. I'll take better gas mileage, emissions, and a quiet (while idling) exhaust too if I can.

That's very interesting. I never would have thought that popups would impact aerodynamics when they weren't popped up. I guess I stand corrected.

And what's this testing top speed in an '86 Celica about, anyway?

Do you think that the wind could have changed on the day you tried it? There may have been a headwind on the first test, or a tailwind on the second.

Aftermarket popups? They won't fit in the factory holes. That alone is enough to kill them.

Now *maybe* somebody who does a total reskin will be tempted to include some retro-future-style hidden headlamps, but it'll be a whole lot of trouble.

Now, owing to the controversy of exposed headlamps on Corvette, and to the faddish nature of the bug-eyes-under-glass look GM has chosen, I think it's a certainty that we'll see a hurried aftermarket for black surrounds, chrome surrounds, peekaboo black/bodycolor covers, smoke covers, and eventually replacement fixed units with alternate bulb styling to fit the factory hole (and harness).

Most such aftermarket stuff will probably be tacky, from ricer to redneck to bling-bling, but I hope that something will surface that's a tasteful replacement for the wretched diseased eyeballs that will be coming from the factory.

Not that I have a strong opinion about them one way or the other.
