First of all, I'm talking about the base C6 models here...not the C6 Z06.
We've all seen the "guesstimates." I think it will fall a little short of the
'02 - '04 Z06 performance numbers: 0 - 60 and 1/4 mile, in particular. I'm
basing this on the performance numbers of the '90 - '95 ZR-1, and how the
base C5 models never exceeded that car's performance. I think at best the
base C6s will fall just short of matching the current Z06. I'm not trying to
start WWIII, and I'm not biased because of my '04 Z . It's just my
expectation/opinion (FWIW) based on what's occurred with GM in the past.
...if you compare the z06 now to a c6 z06 well the new ones will have 500hp! no comparsion the c6 z06 I read will do 11.7 easy

Not what I asked; the C6 Z06 is going to blow us all away I'm sure. However,
I think it also will fall a little short...of 500 HP anyway. The '02 -'04 Z06,
however, will remain slightly quicker than a base C6. Watch and you'll see...
I remember that slide he talked about them being very close and in some areas exceeding the Z06.. I wish that I had the one that showed the performance at the rpm levels comparision.. the C6 was ahead of the current Z06 for the most part....I may look for that one....

I DID answer your question just added my thoughts on the c6 z06 as well.
I told you I think the c6 will beat the current z06 why? it's lighter and has jues 5hp less.
Re: Base C6/'02 - '04 Z06 performance comparison... (04msmZ06)
The C6 will meet (base coupe) or exceed (Z51) the performance of the outgoing C5 Z06. GM has carefully phrased tacit admission of this so as not to seriously derail final sales of heavily discounted Z06's.
Look at the posted comparison slides on this thread. Note the top speed and the careful references to he Z51 package. Compare the known equipment stats of the C6 Z51.
Who's got the slide of the LS2 vs. LS6 dyno curves handy? I think its going to be damn close & the bottom end of the LS2 with those extra cubes might make the difference once they are out for a while. I doubt GM has rented many 1/4 tracks during C6 testing. Once somebody who can tear through the gears good gets one of these on a real track for a few months I think we'll see that 12.6 drop dramatically.
Is the C6 really going to be slightly lighter than the current Z06? I thought it was slightly lighter than the base C5, but not the Z06. I think in a straightline test, they will be even, and it will come down to the driver. On the track, I think a C6 will need the Z51 and some wider tires to best the Z06.
I hope when one of the car mags puts the new C6 w/Z51 up against its competition they throw
in an '04 Z06 just for fun. A C6 w/Z51, '05 911 S w/active suspension, and '04 Z06 would
be a good shootout.
This proves my point: the heading says preliminary. I'm pretty sure these
numbers are achieved with powershifting, which the car mags. won't do. Also,
remember that GM claimed the '02 Z06 would do 0 - 60 in 3.9. If they did
reach sub 4s in the '02, then it was done with powershifting. I don't think any
car mag. ever achieved better than 4.2/12.4 (0 - 60/quarter) for the '02 - '04
Z06. And, I doubt any car mag. will run better than 4.4/12.7 or so in the base
C6 models, regardless of the performance package.
I don't think any car mag. ever achieved better than 4.2/12.4 (0 - 60/quarter) for the '02 - '04 Z06.
Car and Driver achieved 0-60 in 4.0 seconds in Dec 2001
Car and Driver achieved 1/4 mile in 12.4@116 in Dec 2001
Car and Driver achieved 0-60 in 4.07 seconds in Feb. 2002
In 01 the base c5s time was .2 faster to 60 and .2 faster in the quarter mile due to the hp and torque increase.
So, picture when gm bumps up the power on the base c6 which IMO should beat the current z06 already.
6.0 liters 400hp .......it's just 5hp less than a 04 z06 and it weighs a good bit less. So my bet is for the base c6........and can't wait for the c6 z06 whew!

Re: C6/Z06 performance comparison... (Scissors)
I think a C6 with all the Z51 bits PLUS the same tires that the Z06 uses would
would match a Z06 and of course pull away at the end because of the 15mph higher top speed.
The dyno curves you are looking for are in a thread in the C6 tech section in a thread started by Jim Hall. Take a look. The LS2 torque curve has huge advantages over the LS6 curve in a VERY large portion of the rpm range. The horsepower curves are basically identicle. With the C6 being about 150 to 200lbs heavier than the C5 Z06, the accleration numbers should favor the currernt Z06, but I doubt it will be a big deal. It will probably be more of a matter of drivers and not the vehicles. If the C6 can drop 100lbs easily, then the C6 will be a clear winner.
