This would be my analysis: the Z06 is slightly quicker in straights but in the curves i really think that the C6 Z51 handles better, the Z06 edge in straight line acceleration is compensated by the C6 in the corners to make up ground and have lap times almost identical.....
In the corners i still think the Z06 pulls more G's than the C6 but the C6 from the videos that i have seen looks like it puts its power to the ground more efficiently, with better traction coming out of corners than the Z06....
In the corners is where the C6 stiffer structure really pays off over the Z06.....
So there are pretty evenly matched, pretty impressive for the C6 when you consider that is giving away about 150 lbs against the Z....
Imagined if the C6 would weigh in the same as a Z06, it would run circles around the Z....
I don't think any car mag. ever achieved better than 4.2/12.4 (0 - 60/quarter) for the '02 - '04 Z06.
Car and Driver achieved 0-60 in 4.0 seconds in Dec 2001
Car and Driver achieved 1/4 mile in 12.4@116 in Dec 2001
Car and Driver achieved 0-60 in 4.07 seconds in Feb. 2002
I think the new C6 will be a pretty even match for the Z06. I have personally run 12.67 at 112 in my 2001 C5 with 317 rwhp (just B&B exhaust and cold air intake), running on Michelin Pilots. In my Convertible with same equipment - but worse launches (due to Z51 suspension) I have run 12.80 at 112.5
Anyone wanna place bets on what I'll be able to run in a bone stock C6 that should easily have 350 - 355 rwhp, and the new tires that should be comparable to my Michelins?
Re: Base C6/'02 - '04 Z06 performance comparison... (04msmZ06)
As has been said before, it really comes down to the driver... take it to the track and find out. For HP junkies who will never even take it to the track, it comes down to bench racing the numbers and bragging rights. For me, it comes down to timing and $$. I want my V8 now! I like the idea of getting more than $10K off sticker and 405HP for about $42K, so I just put down my money on a 2004 Z06 and will be picking it up at the end of the month. My first Corvette and I am EXCITED to be getting such massive performance for a bargain price.

What a great attitude. The C5 is a great car, and you are right. It's a bargain right now compared to what a C6 will go for.

Not to change the subject, but 317 RWHP and 12.67 @ 112? That's pretty
impressive. You must have had some great launches...and shifted well.

It seems like I remember reading where Dave Hill said that, "If a C5 Z06 ran
4 sec. a lap quicker than a base C5, then the C6 with Z51 gains three of the
seconds back." Still just a little bit short...

In 01 the base c5s time was .2 faster to 60 and .2 faster in the quarter mile due to the hp and torque increase.
So, picture when gm bumps up the power on the base c6 which IMO should beat the current z06 already.
6.0 liters 400hp .......it's just 5hp less than a 04 z06 and it weighs a good bit less. So my bet is for the base c6........and can't wait for the c6 z06 whew!
The C6 weighs MORE than the C5 Z06.
I voted they will be equal. That fatter TQ curve should make up for the weight differential....but I'm not certain. The C5 Z06 tires will give it a slight advantage. It will come down to the driver.
Intresting the C6 tires are slightly lower profile (smaller sidewall) than the Z06 because of the combination of the C6 larger wheels and smaller tires....

Re: C6/Z06 performance comparison... (Dsob15)
Saw Dave Hill today and he said the A4 C6 would be in the 4.7 range for 0-60. slower than an Z06
But he quoted 4.1 0-60 for the Z51 C5 Coupe Very comparable to the Z06 right down to the moment you take the tops off the car. That will be much easier with the C6 than the Z.

Yeah, the 4.1, 0-60 will be achieved by factory drivers with power shifting.
The car mags will still have the "half second gap" on their 0-60 test runs
because they don't power shift. I believe the MN6 tests will result in runs
no better than 4.5 for the 0-60; the 4.7 (0-60) for the A4 sounds about right.
