Most GT3 orders are opting out of the ceramic brakes, as they have a tendency to crack. Most people are sticking with the iron rotors.

I hope one of the rags runs this comparison; my boss's GT3 is showing up in about 2 to 3 weeks, and my C6 should be here a few months later. Numbers are close... right up to the $75K discount I got on the vette...
Are you getting a Z51?

Considering price, it would be much more equitable to compare the GT3 to the C6 Z06. Then it would only cost 50% more than the Corvette as opposed to 100% more.......while getting it's azzz whipped by the bowtie

Nordschleife times:

C6 w/ Z51 - 7:56
Porsche 996 GT3 - 7:56

Result? They are equal before you account for price and subjective crap.

So many numbers, so little time.
Motor trend says they got
GT3 at
0-60 at 3.9
1/4 mile at 12.1/116

I want one, but just can't make the payments. I can get 2 vettes for the price of one.
Are you sure those times aren't for the Turbo?
R&D says 0-60 in 4.2 and quarter at 12.4.

Impressive when you consider that the C6 weigh in about 200 pounds more than the GT3.....

Of the two cars the GT3 has lower profile tires:

GT3 front tires sidewall=3.7 inch
""""""rear tires sidewall=3.48 inch

C6 front tires sidewall=3.85 inch
"""""rear tires sidewall=3.92 inch

Should this give the GT3 a slight edge in handling?

Keep in mind that these numbers are achieved in the GT3 WITHOUT power
shifting. On average, the car mags came up with 0-60 times of 4.3 sec. or
lower in the GT3. As a reference point, Dave Hill and the factory drivers
touted 3.9 sec. 0-60 and 12.4 @ 116 for the quarter for the C5 '02+ Z06.
This was done WITH power shifting and a few other corrections (see CQ
Spring 2002 issue). But, the car mags. always came up with anywhere from
4.29 - 4.7 0-60 and all the way up to 13.1 @ 111 mph for the quarter for the
C5 '02+ Z06. Now, Dave Hill and gang are saying 4.1 0-60 for the Z51 C6.
Once again, this is done WITH power shifting. So, there's at least a .3 to .8
diff. between what the factory claims and what the car mags. will produce
because the car mags. DON'T power shift. I'd say count on 4.4 secs.
0-60 /12.5 or so in the 1/4 mile as the absolute best times the mags. will
produce in the Z51 C6. That's very quick, but those numbers will be just a
little bit short of the GT3.

Incorrect. Car and Driver has gotten 4.0 and 4.07 without the form of powershifting used by GM's driver.

Okay, then I expect Car and Driver to produce the absolute best test numbers
for the C6.

........ I've read numerous times that they tried to make the base C6 Z51 as quick as the C5 Z06 but came up just a bit short. And, if it has such a higher top end speed, then why did Dave Hill say the following:
"If the C5 Z06 was 4 seconds a lap quicker than the base C5s, then the C6
Z51 gains three of those seconds back."......
The C6 does have a much higher top speed. Dave Hill was talking about a road course when he said the C6 gets back 3 of those seconds. That's quite different than running the cars on a high speed oval where the C6 would pull away.

Most GT3 orders are opting out of the ceramic brakes, as they have a tendency to crack. Most people are sticking with the iron rotors.

Wow that is a big problem!!!!!!

Is little surprising because one of Porsches strenghts is their overall quality and durability that their cars have......
The ceramics also add over $8K to the price tag, if I recall correctly....

I just read an article about the cracking problems in both the GT2 and GT3...

Porsche is investigating the problem but it seems that the main reasons for the cracks is overheating..... They say that the front brake cooling ducts has to be redesign......

It's not a MUCH higher top speed (174 C5 Z06 vs. 180 drag limited for
base C6). And, the Corvette forte is road courses, not ovals. I don't know of
any races involving Corvettes that are run on oval tracks.

Negative 186 mph has been confirmed by GM at their proving grounds.....

Remember 5th gear in the C6 is much taller than in the Z06.....
