Most GT3 orders are opting out of the ceramic brakes, as they have a tendency to crack. Most people are sticking with the iron rotors.

Wow that is a big problem!!!!!!

Is little surprising because one of Porsches strenghts is their overall quality and durability that their cars have......

The ceramics also add over $8K to the price tag, if I recall correctly....
Porshe 911 GT3 "base price" $99,900
C6 Vette Est "base price"+ Z51 $48,500

Assuming a Z51 C6 performs very close to a C5 Z06, does anyone here see a difference in the performance of the two that justifies $51,400?

Note Est C6 price:
C5 base $44,635
C6 rumors add $ 2,000
Z51 rumors add $ 1,500
margin for error $ 365
Total $48,500 estimate

I don't have a Porsche but have been looking at them. The are starting model changes like Corvette. There are rumors of a 450 HP turbo coming next year with 6-speed auto and a double-clutch manual transmission.

Rumors say the gear box gives 3.7 sec to 100km/h (about 62 mph) and top speed of 305 km/h (189mph).

Is that it for the next Turbo 450hp?

The new Z06 will smoke it!!!!!!

And I'm thinkin the new Z is going to set you back 70k at the most where as the Turbo would be more like 120+k. Nice work GM.

Yes, but the GT3 has only 375 or 380hp. The torque in the vette makes up for the weight difference.
I was out at Pocono Raceway last Saturday there was a GT3 among a few ZO6s. The GT3 was faster. I went over to speak to the GT3 owner and he said except for the seats, the car was stock. I couldn't believe how fast the GT3 was. I was really shocked!!

Yeah i have read that the GT3 is faster than the Z06 mainly because of its better handling.......

When you add up the area under the curve, the LS2 puts more power to ground than the LS6, period!

Keep in mind that these numbers are achieved in the GT3 WITHOUT power
shifting. On average, the car mags came up with 0-60 times of 4.3 sec. or
lower in the GT3. As a reference point, Dave Hill and the factory drivers
touted 3.9 sec. 0-60 and 12.4 @ 116 for the quarter for the C5 '02+ Z06.
This was done WITH power shifting and a few other corrections (see CQ
Spring 2002 issue). But, the car mags. always came up with anywhere from
4.29 - 4.7 0-60 and all the way up to 13.1 @ 111 mph for the quarter for the
C5 '02+ Z06. Now, Dave Hill and gang are saying 4.1 0-60 for the Z51 C6.
Once again, this is done WITH power shifting. So, there's at least a .3 to .8
diff. between what the factory claims and what the car mags. will produce
because the car mags. DON'T power shift. I'd say count on 4.4 secs.
0-60 /12.5 or so in the 1/4 mile as the absolute best times the mags. will
produce in the Z51 C6. That's very quick, but those numbers will be just a
little bit short of the GT3.

Wrong wrong wrong! One day I was able to get consistent 4.55 to 4.6 over and over again on my 2001 coupe without power shifting. This was using both g-tech and autotap. There's no way a Z06 is going to be as slow as 4.7. No way.

Also, the higher 0-60 times that the mags originally reported where they couldn't get the factory claims was in the 2001 Z06, not the subsequent years with the extra 20 hp.

I've read the same. Are they using the Audi SMG? From what I've read, it's the best trans to *EVER* make it into a street legal car. Absolutely instant shifts with no lag but with the efficiency of a manual.

As long as everytime they produce a new Porsche they keep comparing it to a Corvette and talk about how much better it is I'll stay with the Corvette.

The GT3 with Ceramic brakes (PCCB) suck! ....They do not last long and cost $8k for each rotor!.........Who ever bought them with there Porsche will take them off for track use or will throught them out.

The GT3 does lows 12's in the 1/4

[QUOTE=04msmZ06][quote] The C6 does have a much higher top speed. Dave Hill was talking about a road course when he said the C6 gets back 3 of those seconds. That's quite different than running the cars on a high speed oval where the C6 would pull away.

It's not a MUCH higher top speed (174 C5 Z06 vs. 180 drag limited for
base C6). And, the Corvette forte is road courses, not ovals. I don't know of
any races involving Corvettes that are run on oval tracks.

Hmmmm, sounds to me like someone has C6 envy, LOL.

It's interesting to me that most of the comparison here seems to be on the basis of track numbers. I'll be making the desision in about 3 years whether to go with a C6 Z06 or a 997 (latest model of the 911). I'll test drive them both. The C6 doesn't have enough improvement over the C5 to interest me, at least at this point. There's no question the Z06 would be faster on the track, but I haven't even had my C5 above 140 (on the track). The reality for me is that I'm not going to use the full performance of either car except on the track, and I don't know that I won't give up some track performance for better fit and finish, better leather, and general feel of the Porsche.

The quality of the materials on the 997 better be a lot better than the over abundance of plastics used on the 996. A friend of mine recently sold his new 996 because he could not believe the amount of sqeaks and rattles associated with a car that had a sticker price well north of $75,000.
