What kind of NAV data is displayed on the HUD? Street names? actual street maps? But the HUD/NAV connection seems like such a cool thing. BTW, I own a MIO GPS POCKET PC, and it works like a charm, don't waste $1000 on some of those touchscreen NAV systems, the Palm and Pocket PC systems are cheap ($429), touchscreen, and are easily upgradable.

I would've really liked the Nav in the C6, but I didn't order it due to lack of use and functionality for my needs. I didn't like the lack of MP3 capability...I didn't like the one disc feature (especially without MP3 capability) As much as I change CD's, the screen would be moving up and down way too often. It was a tough decision, but in the end function won.

I guess I'm too greedy.

Wow, an amazing number of posts about such a simple option choice. From my point of view, this is a no brainer. If you NEED navigation assistance when and where you normally drive, buy it. If you find your type of driving is served well with a compass and map, don't buy it. This has absolutely nothing to do with the car...it will drive just fine with or without NAV.

I did not order NAV with my own C6 simply because I don't normally do the kind of driving that would benefit from having it. No cross country trips, and few excursions to parts of the country where a map wouldn't do just fine. That, plus the added cost of the NAV and the loss of the 6 CD changer led me to conclude that, for me, there was no point in having it. Conversely, my next family sedan, which gets most of the miles put on it, will likely be ordered with a NAV system, XM, and OnStar...all options I specifically did not get on my C6.

It's not about what's good or bad. It's just about what you're willing to pay for when you order your car, based on your own personal needs. This applies to every option offered, including 1SX, 1SA, 1SB, HPW, and the few add-ons GM lets you buy seperately. There really are no bad choices here since we're all winding up with the same car...a new C6.

Great Another Yellow! I’m hurt.

But, get real friend ... knock off your and be straight with these folks. So now you also think the C6 unit is the same unit as in the XLR or was this a cut and paste quickie out of context ????

The screen resolution & unit functionality in the XLR is totally different than the C6 unit ... sorry man, you just don't get it, and probably .....

The road data turns out to be >4 years old (probably ~6) -- in this brand new car. I also found that there are no updates available from NavTeq for the maps since 1999 and I am waiting for a reply from them.

The POI data is pretty current.

And would only add that its real usefulness to your driving experience, if you have never used a nav system before, can only be judged until you have lived with the system for about six months and the newness has worn off.

also and this is perhaps the best put approach I've heard. I am new to it and wanted it for travel which it has failed at so far.

I'm a pilot and used to very accurate navigation, perhaps I'm expecting too much from this unit. The GPS unit appears to be quite good. Will give it a bit more time.
