Sorry I added to your wounds by posting the picture and telling about the pop-rivets but they did ask so I had to tell.

Illinois requires a front plate, and I'm hearing from some of my club buddies there is an increase in enforcement. $75 a pop

The C6 solution is horrible. I'm not running the front plate on my 03 Z as I think it ruins the look of the front end, but the C6 plate holder looks like a cheap Pep Boys product. I'd hate to have to install it.

I don't think running a front plate on a C5 ruins the looks as bad as it will on the C6. The C4's and C5's had a designed in spot for the plate. The C6's don't and it definately messes with the front end lines. Not to mention how the plate adapter will be attached, the back portion looks like it will rub on the nose.

Yep, another grand idea not fully thought out by Dave Hill. There are a lot of things I see in magazines about the C6 that are appealing but my 3rd vette (C5) has taken me 3 years to undo and repair all the foulups built in by GM and I just see an even more viscious array of comedies with all the electronic gadgets in the C6. A guinie pig for $60K? I don't think so.

It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it. Some of us don't mind.

I think the solution for this problem would be for all states to remove the front plate requirement. Don't they know they are messing with the art of car designs, not to mention aero dynamics and cooling. Cars are not blocks with wheels anymore, plate designs need to change or be eliminated.

Gryphonauto makes a custom plate holder that can be mounted in different locations. It's the only real alternative to the cinderblock mount GM has. There are some mock-ups of it on DC. It's a shame that the C6 was designed to run plateless. Some states require front identification. ANYTHING mounted in front ruins the whole look.

With all the electronics in the C6, the cops should be able to point at your car and download all the info about you and your car. No need for any plates.
And satellite tracking should be able to monitor all vehicles on the road. Then, when you break the speed limit, the satellite registers your violation, deducts a fine from your credit card, and e-mails you the transaction.
Those who go over the limit on violations will have their car programmed by satellite not to function until you appear for a hearing to justify getting the use of your car returned.

Gez, I'm even scaring myself

Look on the bright side, it will distract people from seeing that big wide Julia Roberts grin
