If you think that is hot just be glad you don't drive a 68 to 72 big block which is a giant furnace throughout the whole car. The heat comes from the engine.
Tranny type shouldn't matter since it's in the rear. I would think this problem would be the same regardless of suspension, or tansmission type. The torque tube enclosure must be the culprit. My C5 gets warm in the console but it's no big deal.
Duh... what was I thinking? I was completely uniformed about the transmission location. Thanks. That's what I get for only taking wrenches to C2's and C3's. All the rest have been drivers.
Wierd, since this is a common problem on C5's (solved by installing HVAC insulation sold at Home Depot etc it's the silver backed insualtion with a sticky side. It can be cut to any shape and the entire console area insulated). I bet it adds no more than a pound to the car.
I would have thought GM would have spent the few dollars to insulate this area. I have many buddies that have insulated their C5's and not only does it keep the console cool it eliminates a lot of the noise too.
It's any easy fix that I guess new C6 owners will have to tackle, just like C5 folks have done for years.

Tom: Is this applied to the underside or under the carpetting?
