Has anyone experienced the center console heating up significantly? The C6 has dual cupholders in the center console. Today, while driving, I had a bottle of Arrowhead water in the front (of the two) cupholder. It was a cool day here (CALIF.) for a change, but about 45 minutes into my "errands run" I grabbed the water & it was VERY hot. I began feeling the interior of both cupholders---VERY hot! I started checking the center console side panels--hot too. Anyone else have similar?
Others have reported this problem, but I have not had this experience. Currently, the longest I've driven my 6-spd at one time is about 30 minutes, at approximately 60 MPH. I have the base suspension w/o Z51.
I have made it a point on several occasions to feel all along the tunnel on both sides and the console on my car seems to get the warmest. I wouldn't put a chocolate bar in there, but it's not hot by any means, just warm.
Be curious to know what tranny & what suspension or handling package those have that are getting hot (Z51 or not).

Reason: Add info.

You actually use the cup holder!? (I'll check it out tomorrow)
Guess that's a fringe benefit, as coffee is my drink of choice!!
But for real, drove about 2 hours today, did not notice any significant heat buildup in the center console, and the Mountain Dew did not boil over. (Yes, I use my cupholders...that's what they're there for!!!)
Yes, I too have noticed the problem and was somewhat concerned with the lack of insulation from the transmission.
What do we do?

Mine doesn't get any hotter than my C5 did, which I thought was acceptable. I did notice the center compartment does get a bit toasty. But not really bad.
A little warm to the touch here. Nothing that would make me concerned. It doesn't seem to get any hotter if you run it harder either, since 5-6 back to back runs down the 1/4 mile didn't make it any warmer than usual.
Noted that the drivers side got HOT on 200mile drive. It might get real Hot in the AZ summer. It was about 75 degrees outside. 600 miles on vin2000 Auto/ 411

We are in the transmission zone here.. is it the Automatic that is getting hot or the standard?
Well...my Auto gets VERY warm, not really HOT- but very warm, on the drivers side(of course<G>). Obviously it SEEMS warmer on the plastic portions of the consol. The passenger side doesn't SEEM to be as "hot" but I haven't asked my wife to find out if it's uncomfortable for her.
It's by no means so hot that I even notice it....I just remember checking it because of a previous post here. The climate control takes good care of me.
I guess the next question should be for all of us to record our transmission temps.....?
Tranny type shouldn't matter since it's in the rear. I would think this problem would be the same regardless of suspension, or tansmission type. The torque tube enclosure must be the culprit. My C5 gets warm in the console but it's no big deal.
That was/is a problem in the C5s as well. I bet it has to do with the torque tube running through there. That is the major thing there since the trans is in the rear. In my C5s I used to put a couple Hershey Kisses in the cupholder and within a few minutes they'd be melted.
Maybe some extra heat shield under the center console.

My Viper had some interior heat issues as well.
Actually, it's b/c the exhaust pipes run under there.
Check out any number of threads in the C5 section regarding a chassis stiffner plate. At least one of the vendors had coated the plate to deflect heat to address this exact problem.

Wierd, since this is a common problem on C5's (solved by installing HVAC insulation sold at Home Depot etc it's the silver backed insualtion with a sticky side. It can be cut to any shape and the entire console area insulated). I bet it adds no more than a pound to the car.
I would have thought GM would have spent the few dollars to insulate this area. I have many buddies that have insulated their C5's and not only does it keep the console cool it eliminates a lot of the noise too.
It's any easy fix that I guess new C6 owners will have to tackle, just like C5 folks have done for years.

The type of transmission could possibly make a difference in the tunnel temp. The A4 has two steel lines to transmit hot (160*+) transmission fluid to the heat exchanger located at the front of the car. The standard 6-speed dosen't have the lines but the Z-51 optioned 6-speed cars do. BUT, my C5 A4 tunnel area does not get hot, barely luke warm, even when driven on 100*+ days.

To me, it dosen't make sense that the exhaust pipes would create the problem as the pipes run under the tunnel re-inforcement plate which would act as a heat shield, not thru the tunnel. In fact, the C5 should run hotter as the catalytic converters are mounted to the exhaust pipes in a recessed area of the floorboard at the front of the tunnel, whereas the C6 catalytic converters are mounted to the exhaust pipes at the rear of the exhaust manifolds. If the problem were the exhaust pipes, then all cars should have the problem as all cars have the exhaust pipes located in the same area, both the C5 and the C6. My C5 does not have a HOT tunnel, but others do, just as with the C6. I don't have the answer, and apparently neither does GM engineering, but it isn't the exhaust, in my opinion.

My mn6, with base suspension and no Z51, does not get hot - just warm. Matches your description.
