The Wave
I think it may be based on areas...
I also am a former British sports car (TR6, TR7) owner who first learned about the wave with those cars... Back then we only waved to each other... so when I got a Vette I naturally assumed that everyone knew about the wave... But was very surprised when I did not get too many back...
Also, on a C6 note, I work in Milford and see a lot of C6's on the road, and not a single one has waved. Although, I believe they are all part time drivers (not owners) that work at the Proving Grounds...
I can make the same general claim, I saw my first C6 last week (I drive one of the most recognized shapes on the road) and the guy ignored me. Guess I should use your formula and brand all C6 owners as "snobs".
I wish folks would stop and think before posting.
Tom
guess there are some strong feelings out there..... My intention was certainly not offend any C5 owner, and if I did so, then I sincerely apologize.
I know the wave is just a little thing, but I think it's very cool...

You are just making an observation, which is perfectly fine. If you had indicated bias, or prejudice, then maybe taking offense would be justified. Here's a
from a C5 owner. As a relatively new Corvette owner I think the wave is very cool as well, but I'd say my "return wave rate" is about 50% (mostly C5'ers). I have not yet encountered a C6 on the road yet, but I will certainly wave when I do.I feel very fortunate to be driving such an awesome car, and will wave to each and every generation
Simply put, again, you can't judge the "waving habits" of an entire generation of vet owners, be they C1,2,3,4,5, or 6, on how many waves you received from owners of these cars while you are out driving around. Let me give you an example.......if I pass two C5 owners and they both wave and pass two C6 owners and only one waves am I to assume that 100% of C5 owners will always wave and only half of the C6 owners wave?
Some people take this wave thing way too seriously. If you wave at another vet owner and don't receive a return wave it's one of several things.........they didn't see you, did see you but were doing something more important than waving(and unbelievably there are more important things), or they did see you and don't know about the wave tradition and if they did well they are just too daggone important for their own britches.I ride a motorcycle and it is tradition to wave to other bikes. Some do and some don't. If I tried to come up with some percentage of how many Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, Ducati, or Harley owners wave or don't wave it would be a major PITA. And you know what? It's just not worth it. Some people wave and some don't. Accept it and let it go!

I was just saying that it's just as wrong for ANYONE to lump all C5 owners into a category about anything as it is for you to do the same with all C6 owners.

Not a single C4 or C5 has waved to me yet.
If I had to guess, I'd say that most of them aren't real sportscar enthusiasts.. just people who wanted a 'hot car' for less than a 911.

Jim,
I'm sorry the point of what I am writing is not coming across. The C6 owners thinking they're the bomb was meant to be taken "tongue-in-cheek". I said it merely to compliment the originators very eloquent wording:
Going slow or someone pulls up next to me, no reason not to wave.

I think that, starting with the C5, vettes began to attract a new, broader crowd. As a result, you have a broader range of attitudes.
It ranges by area as well. Case in point- I ride motorcycles (cruisers), and here in Va Beach Va, most people on bikes acknowledge one another. If not by waving since that can be difficult at times on a bike, then by a head nod at the very least. Out in SoCal, where I visited recently, I rode PCH between Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach and not one other biker waved! One or two gave a half-hearted nod AFTER I waved, but that was it. I know HD riders in certain areas still have an attitude (although out-dated and immature) toward other makes, but I was on a custom Harley!
Every once in awhile, I'll wave to someone, and I KNOW he sees me, and he doesn't wave back. On my face, I just smile and keep on. In my head, I'm imagining that I alter my wave in to a different type of hand gesture, but I don't. It wouldn't accomplish anything and the fact that I waved makes me feel good either way.
I know he's just one of the d@#$heads and after all, he's the one that has to live with himself, not me.
