I hope the new steering wheel will go in the regular Corvettes also in 2006. I can't imagine that it won't. The new wheel is also making an appearnace in the Pontiac Torrent SUV, the Pontiac G6 coupe and Convertible (as evidence in the just released photos of both from the Auto show).
My friends say I'm silly to make my decision to buy or not buy a car for $50,000 on such small trivila matters...but I do not own a new corvette now...but if in 2006 Chevy makes two changes, the steering wheel being one, and MORE IMPORTANTLY offers the 6 speed automatic, I'll be buying one in October.
FWIW - Street Ferraris and F1 cars have controls on the wheel....
Take a look at the controls on the Enzo steering wheel Enzo Steering Wheel . While these aren't radio buttons, I'm sure Ferrari gave some serious thought towards the logic of placing commonly used controls on the wheel. Also the F430 with it's adjustable vehicle dynamics controls on the wheel.
Basic stereo controls on the wheel reduce distraction and keep one's hands on the wheel. Regardless, they are fast becoming standard equipment for all automobiles, including sports cars.
And when the C6 gets a six-speed automatic, will Dave Hill keep shift buttons/paddles off the steering wheel?
Good luck with that, Dave. The Voice of the Customer will make you eat your words.
