Well, the groinky 08 gearbox tones down my joy a bit. On the other hand, when comparing it my 08 base automatic I can't tell how much of the seat of the pants performance perception is due to the manual vs automatic change and how much is motor. The automatic was bugging me by shifting so soon. It got annoying shifting at about 1200 rpm all the time.Another difference- I'm kinda pleasantly surprised at how much more attention it gets on the road compared to my previous 08 base coupe, even with it being the same color..

Buy enough cars/trucks and you realize it's a mistake not to get:
a) the most powerful motor/best handling
b) the best sound system
Sure you can get base models and upgrade but it's just not the same (and most of the time you never get around to it).
I think I bought too soon (prices keep dropping) though I love it as does my wife. In fact, she's made it known that she thinks this car will be a classic and thinks we shouldn't ever sell it (she owns a perfect '57 T-Bird so she knows of what she speaks). Who am I to argue?

I had a 2007 silver base c6 that I loved..it was auto..had removable top etc. 400hp. I bought a 2008 black z and traded in the 07..I was upset for maybe 24 hours and then I absolutely fell in love with my Z...would I do it again? HELL YES. The Z is worth every freakin penny. It's worth the high payment...yes it's worth it for the 505hp, wide body, everything etc..YOU WILL LOVE IT AND NEVER LOOK BACK..is it worth the stretch...HELL FREAKIN YES.

I did the same thing, bought an '07 coup when I really wanted the Z06. I ended up trading in my '07 coup for an ordered '09 Z06 in August and picked it up at the end of September. I took a 12k hit on 18mo depreciation on the coup, but did get a 11k employee discount on the Z06.
If you really want a Z06, be wary of settling for anything less.

YES, I DO. I REGRET BUYING MY Z.
I should have bought 2 of them, one for DD and one for the track.
Other than that, no regrets. You can't buy a car with better day-to-day performance. Period.

I haven't even had mine for a week yet, and already I am falling in love with it. I had my 2006 Z51 coupe for 2 1/2 years and never felt about it the way I feel about the Z06. This thing accelerates and handles like no other car I have ever driven. And it even looks fantastic just sitting still. God willing, I will pay this thing off and keep it the rest of my life. Absolutely no regrets.

Goinky gearbox? My '08 is smooth and consistent. Fingers-palm shifting. Learned it and mastered it on my 2003 Z06. The '08 is much easier to shift to me. I guess it's a matter of perspective. I let a friend drive it and he had a hard time getting to third, but he was manhandling the shifter. She's a classy girl and likes it gentle.

I had an 02 Z06 that I bought new....kept it for 3 years(record for me) until my C6 came in. I wasn't a mile from the dealership before regretting it....too disconnected.
I went thru 4 C6 coupes, all modded to different degrees, looking for the same thrill I got from the 02 Z06....didn't get it until I got my first
C6 Z06 3 years ago.
To me,performance is paramount, I could not care less about a removable top or an automatic transmission. And for that reason I'll never own a standard coupe or vert again...I've been spoiled.
I'm sure though if posted in C6 General this question would get a polar opposite response. There are some valid reasons for choosing a standard C6....removable top and auto are mandatory for some. But don't let anyone fool you into thinking it's within a whisker of a Z06 in performance because it really, really isn't.
No more than a Z06 is within a whisker of a ZR-1.
