Thats why you add a Vette Air intake duct or modify the shroud. Still easy to do.

I am sure you would like his story being a vendor of the thing, BUT WHY IS IT SO GOOD.

We're asking about these things because we obviously are wanting to make an educated choice with info from end users.

Just saying you like it doesn't help anyone. Do you like it becasue you spent your $450 and are now stuck with it or is there a real reason why it's better than any other?

Most people are not going to know if theirs is better than the other. I guess you have to have tried them all to make that call, BUT you can say why you like yours.

I am looking for a GOOD COLD air intake.

If it installs in 5 mintes or 2 hours does NOT matter.

Not sure why you would think the 5 minute install would be a selling point.

100%

The big reason many go with the Halltech or K&N is because you don't have to cut the shroud. Are they better breathing than stock? YES, but call some reputable tuners and see what they use with their performance packages.

It was more than a few.

So it looks like the K&N and Halltech are the two most popular. Thanks for the responses gang!

A "first design, thick walled, non-warping, original clamped" K&N with Carlos' Vette Air.. A terrific combo w/ K&N's gratuitous carbon fiber bling for esthetics !

I opted for the "REAL" Carbon Fiber Hurricane Intake from West Coast Corvettes. It is one of the only True Cold Air Intakes available and the finish is perfect. The filter is cleanable and there is no possible way for water or debris to get into the airbox. You can also get a pre-cut shroud from WCC so you dont have to cut anything on your car. -Joe

I know that one of the tUners who works w/ Katech (Kirk) believes that in his tests the K&N is a little better than the killer B, and he uses K&N because of that and the savings in $.

Also I had been trying to get a K&N for weeks so Kirk could come down and do my tune. First it was a 3 week delay now it's a 10 week delay. Don't know what the problem is, but it's beginning to smell like a production problem---- so we ordered the killer be just to "Get er done"!

If anyone is interested, K&N will have a replacement filter for the C6 Z06/LS3 soon. They are working on it.

Here is what happened with the K&N. Their plastic extrusion supplier started supplying parts not to K&N's blueprint. The wall thickness around the circumference should be between .18 to .2" yet mine for example was at one point down to just under .14". This negative variation caused the collasping issue IMO. K&N in true fashion started three fronts, purge all non-conforming material from the system, correct the supplier issue, and additionally re-design to make improvements. This is why the delay. New designs create proof designs, proto-types and reviews, and then production. I do not wish nor should I speak for K&N but as NHRA95 wrote, the new K&N will be forthcoming hopefully soon.

I installed the Vararam ram air system on my 2006 Z06. The air induction system draws cold air from the front opening above the air splitter. The performance specs are about the same as other units. But the air induction does not help while the vehicle is stationary on a dyno. You can really feel the air charge when you hit third gear. A good tune will help the unit perform.

I have read all these posts and no one has really addressed the issue as to why. The way I see it, there are two distinct uses for a CAI...one for drag racing and the other for track use. The air ducting I have seen so far entails taking a portion of the air from the nose piece and diverting away from the radiator and into the engine bay/intake. From my experience with other cars, this is a great drag strip solution, but maybe not optimal for road course use where coolant temps and airflow over extended periods of time are essential.

My question to you all is which intake works best for the drag strip vs. which works best for the track? I suspect the vette-air and vararam are the winners for drag racing, but worry about diverting air from the radiator. Maybe the Callaway is the best for the track?

I will also start a new thread on this...

What about driving in Rain and how do these Real Ram Air Intakes do...?
Like Breathless or Varam, do we have to worry about water getting into to filter???
