[Z06] Very Sad Day in my Life

I just wanted to say goodbye to all.....I sold my 07 Z06 today. It was very hard to give up but I had to let it go. I am looking for a car that has good performance, AWD and 4 doors...Most likely a Audi RS4. I know it won't compare to two most recent cars that I have owned (porsche 911s, Z06), but I had very little time to drive the Z06 due to the weather and 3 small kids. I will return to the true sports car arena someday soon after the kids get alittle bigger and I can actually use the car more. Not too many options other then the Audi but it will have to do until further notice....both cost about the same and I will be able to drive the audi everyday all year long. My 07 Z06 475rwhp was by far the fastest and most exciting car I have every owned. The 911 was also a great drivers car that was very well balanced in every aspect. I met a few of the forums members over the last year and enjoyed the conversations and information that they provided. I enjoyed sitting and reading the forum on a daily basis. Thanks for the ride while it lasted and I pledge to be back again.......

335Xi
1/2 the price of the RS4
400lbs lighter than the Audi.
BMW still pays all maintenance for 4 yrs/50k miles
$349 gets you 320 whp with a little piggyback tuner

...and for the wife and kids the 335xi has a larger trunk and substantially more leg room in the rear. From a quality standpoint Audis can be hit or miss, whereas the BMWs by and large have good build quality and a higher resale value.

i have an an rs4, gas mileage is the pits. it is so bad that it really does take away from an otherwise good car. i can't understand why they didn't put in a taller 6th gear.
for a family car, i'd probably stay away from any car which has a gas guzzler tax.
you might want to consider the gt-r. [flame shield on]

I considered it but it would be a pain in the winter.....along with the E63 and the M5....I want to look at the s6 which might be a better buy due to it is larger then the RS4 and still AWD. The BMW 335ix is not a bad option...I will have to give it a test drive before pulling the trigger. The 335ix probably gets better MPG then both RS4 and S6.

Trapp,
I wouldn't categorize it as a sad day. Your simply swapping a material thing which has a price, unlike family. (But I know where you're coming from and you wouldn't feel so blue if it truly wasn't a special car)
It's never been a requisite for a member here to be a Corvette owner. No reason to say good-bye. Good luck with the next car you buy and enjoy your family! Heck, let's spin it.....it's a happy day.

The RS4 is a very wise choice, given the criteria that are important to you. The performance takes my breath away just like the Z06, except that it just stays stuck like glue no matter what you do.
I just purchased a '07 RS4 with 7K miles. It is a stunning car, despite its poor gas mileage. However, in spirited driving, it is about the same as the Z06. The latter has a decided mileage edge at legal highway speeds in 6th gear, which is significant if long-distance highway cruising is your primary usage.
The RS4 engine winds up faster than anything I've driven and redlines at 8400rpm. Handling is magic and defies logic. There is no question that a Z06 is considerably faster in the hands of a skilled driver, which eliminates about 98% of all owners (I'm not talking about straight lines here), and the RS4 is easier/safer for the average driver to go fast around corners in. Even in dry conditions the the RS4's Quattro system is a decided advantage, and it's unique in the Audi line because it is split 40% front/60% rear, which eliminates much of the "push"/understeer, seen in the rest of the line.
The 335ix is not an appropriate comparison (300HP vs. 425HP RS4), and the weights are nearly identical 3825 vs. 3900). The S4 would be the correct car to compare the 335xi to. The RS4 uses aluminium fenders, decklids, etc. to shave weight off the S4, and it's also lowered over the S4. If you look closely, the only common body parts with rest of the A4/S4 line is the roof and doors.
You can save a fortune on a RS4 by purchasing very low mileage previously owned car. I paid $58K. However, good luck finding one. When I was looking, there were fewer than 20 2007s in the entire US available for sale with under 10K miles. Audi just doesn't build many of them
I wanted AWD too in a "practical ubercar," and for me the RS4 was a no brainer--really the only car in the comparison set.
