I did put on the reinforcement, but my advice would be to not start that project at 11pm before an autocross event happening in the morning of the next day....
Overall I'm glad I put it on if anything just for piece of mind.

Do you NEED the reinforcing piece?
I dunno!
But, take a look at the picture below from Katech's testing. They were testing their splitter without the reinforcement, and you can see that it puts a smiley face on the Z06!!!
Several forum members have had their splitters rip off at highway speed. Even at highway speed the splitter creates so much downforce it deforms the front fascia and the splitter will pull down and scrape on the roadway and rip off the car.

Just wanted to thank the OP for this. The instructions extremely helpful. I have manuals for this car, and if I would have had to rely on them, I'd be quite frustrated by now.

Old thread but is this in the DIY section?

Another reason why I am quite happy the vendors are on the forum. I'll be doing this mod over next winter, just wanted to say thanks to Katech again for that testing.

Glad folks still find it useful, it was my little way of giving back to the forum that I learned so much from. I'd like to see more of these myself.

I just thought I'd chime in here and give my .02 on this subject. I bought the ZR1 carbon fiber front splitter from the sponsor corvettemods.com. I had the splitter on my Z for a week or 2 before installing the reinforcement piece. During this time, I drove my Z maybe 50-100 miles or so. I'd say 50% of that was at highway speeds 75-85MPH.
I'd first like to thank the OP for this very detailed writeup. I have never had my front bumper off before, and it took me about 1.5 hours to do so from the time I put the ramps on the ground until when I had the bumper off. And a lot of that time was getting it up on jackstands. The total install took me about 4 hours, and I took my time. So kudos for a great writeup, sir
After removing the bumper and then removing the splitter, I could tell that the splitter had definitely deformed some. I also noticed later after going thru the pics I took the very day that I installed it, that the deformation began from the minute I bolted it on to the stock location without the reinforcement piece. See this picture for proof:

Again, that pic was taken the same day I installed it, and just around the corner from my garage. Didnt get above 35MPH going from my garage to the spot to take the pics that day.
I just bought the reinforcement as a precautionary measure initially, but now after installing it, I'm so glad I did it! I got my reinforcement from RPI designs.
One thing I noticed about the writeup was that the OP shows 4 additional holes right next to the openings that my corvettemods splitter did not have. So I had to drill those holes in my splitter as well as into the fascia. At first I was a bit perplexed on how to do this to make sure it would all line up once installed. After having the splitter on and off the bumper several times, it dawned on me to bolt the splitter up to the reinforcement piece without the fascia and then drill the holes in the splitter using the holes in the reinforcement as guides. This required removing the little nut clips of course, but no biggie. I could not fit my drill on the reinforcement side to use the existing holes as pilot holes, but I was able to feel the holes from the reinforcement with one hand, and with the other hand, drill thru the splitter in the same spot. This worked great, and then I was able to install the reinforcement piece on the fascia, then bolt the splitter up to the fascia, and I had my pilot holes in the splitter to drill thru the fascia.
I also noticed that the reinforcement had a nut clip on each side that was in the middle of the scoop where the splitter did not have holes. I went ahead and put a bolt in there that just went thru the fascia and the reinforcement figuring this would not let the fascia flap around from any air entering thru there, and would keep the fascia flush.
Now, the splitter is absolutely flat and not sagging or deflected whatsoever. I need to go get some pics of it now to show you guys, but I can see that it is totally level and even.
In summary, I would 100% recommend installing the reinforcement if you are going to use the ZR1 splitter. Whether you are going to be going 70MPH or 170MPH, or even just parked in your garage, you need the reinforcement, I promise!

Well done, Ive added this splitter and reinforcement to my '08 as well as Katech's side skirts and rear spoiler all in carbon fiber. I like the shape of your rear spoiler, who made it and does it come in carbon fiber?

Great to see folks still finding this helpful after almost 2 years.
Speedwrench - the spoiler is just an OEM ZR1 piece.
