I guess I wasn't too clear.
When reading Dreamin's post about starvation, he was running MPSC tires. (Not Slicks)
I have aftermarket tires and might try some of these nor cal tracks for a school.
I don't feel too good about running the stock system at Laguna or THill.

Thanks all for your advice. 2k

I'm confused?!? Are you asking about oiling issues before or after installing the LPE tank? Do a Search to learn about oiling issues with the stock tank on 06-08 Zs. This thread documents Dreamin's findings after installing the LPE tank. On 09-10 Zs, the jury is still out.

Dreamin report no oiling issues(starvation) with the LPE tank. I'm sure he will jump in here soon.

What about only filling with 8 quarts when using it on the street (between track days).... is there any issue with that?

Used the tank at Spring Mountain and had no problems. Run Hoosiers and had oiling issues on previous track days. This time, absolutely no problems. Highly recommend it.

keep it at the full mark ALWAYS. LPE tank, stock tank, street or track.
There are known issues with the oiling system,so why play with fire.

Since the 2009 Oil Tank can be purchased from Gene for ~$500 is it possible that we could just buy the new stock tank and install it in our cars? The LPE unit is several hundred bucks more and may not provide any more protection.

I just checked on Gene's web site today. Cost of the 09 oil tank is $462 plus shipping. That is why I asked if it would bolt on to the upper housing from an earlier car. If you had to buy the whole thing including the holding brackets, dipstick, seals and the internal parts of the oil tank but not the inlet and outlet hoses the price is only $731 + shipping and that is with rounding off the cost of every part to the next higher dollar. Replacing the two hoses would bring the total up another $210. At that point the only thing not replaced is the oil filler cap.

It might be worth it to ask the forum parts vendors to price up an upgrade package with just the parts needed for the upgrade. Engines fail for reasons other than starving for oil. Given GM dealer's tendency to deny warranties on modified cars having a completely stock looking oil tank might be the thing that saves somebody's butt as far as warranty coverage goes.

Have you experienced any oil starvation issues with you car at Watkins Glen International, Bill? I know--and I suspect you know--many C6 Z06 drivers who run their virtually stock cars very hard with R compound tires at the Glen and at other tracks in the Northeast. None that I know has reported an oil starvation problem.

Haven't experienced any problems that I know of and nobody I know has had any yet. Although the Glen and Pocono don't have any long high G left hand turns I have known several guys with C5s and C5Zs that lost their engines at the Glen due to oil starvation. I suspect there is some common element between the failures experienced by GM when they were developing the C5 and decided on the bat wing oil pan (from "All Corvettes are Red"), the C5 failures people experienced and current issues with LS3s and LS7s. Based on that assumption I am not sure the starvation problem is limited to left hand turns. I sure wouldn't want to find out when going through the carousel turn at the Glen. Although most reports are an engine blows after completing a turn there are not any places in that section of the track where I would I want to be sliding around in my own oil. Did it once in somebody elses oil going into 6. Not a lot of fun.

I have also been following some of the threads on LS3 failures and found Chris Ingles experiences with his T1 car interesting.

Maybe I am harking back to many years ago when I was in Scouting and the Motto was "Be Prepared".

Default Mellow response!

GM engineering is absolutely poor, you would think that they would build a proper tank BUT the highter ups want to save money at our expense. I'm being nice with my mellow response, my response could be alot worse. In reviewing the data brochure on the Corvette, the Z06 left a VERY BAD taste in my mouth and the $17k was frightening because of the engineering or lack of engineering.

I doubt that is true. Decisions like this are usually made at very low levels. The higher ups don't have time to review the thousands of minor cost decisions made on cars during their development.
