My build date was 08/30/2005 VIN. # 000502 picked up my Z at the museum on 10/20/2005, (my B-DAY) My Z was the # 14th National CORVETTE Museum Delivery. Allanlaw is correct, the first few hundred were sequential.

Yup, another Roush Z06 . . . Felix, can you believe we are about to celebrate the 4th anniversary of our deliveries?

Hey Royalcasa,

How do you know yours had the Roush treatment as well? Is it based on the delay between completion and delivery? Was yours also there for the same thing as Allanlaw's? (Sorry for the stupid questions - this stuff is just interesting to me!)

Mine was also completed on August 30, 2005. I think it was delivered to Toronto in mid-September 2005. The warranty began on the 30th of September.

It's based on the gap between the completion date and the delivery date, and Royalcasa and I followed all the drama real time based on the posts of a GM insider (the immortal "JDogg") who was helping us out. BTW the warranty begins on the delivery date (the "in service date") so yours probably could not have made the round trip by Sept. 30.

More trivia. I started a black Z06 on 9/28/05 coming off the line about 10:30 a.m at the end of my 7:45 Museum delivery tour. I had to settle for my 06 C6 later that morning because unfortunately, they wouldn't let me have it instead. lol

Yours would have taken a train ride to get to Canada. All US deliveries were by trailer - Allied was the carrier and they went into bankrupcy while the first Z06's were moving around. Mine wound up at Roush in Livonia, Michigan for some type of retrofit, then back to Bowling Green, then finally out to me in Los Angeles on October 25th. Man, was I p*ssed at the delivery delay.
Hey fellow "bunker" mate. My 06 vin was 00251. FYI folks. The first Z06 for sale to the public was 00198. A forum member had it. 00001-00197 were models used by factory personnel and for testing.

More tidbits on the early Z06s with option code WD1-PILOT VEHICLE

The car cooldog was looking at last month, 1G1YY26Y865100050, was at Garber Auto Mall in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Don't know if cooldog bought it or if they still have it. It's #2 of the 288 DSOM Z06s built.

Another WD1, 1G1YY26YX65100051, was for sale last month. An older professional gentleman in Chicago had it listed on the Lingenfelter site. It's the first VY Z06 built, with low miles. It looks stock but now has a paddleshift 6-speed automatic trans by RPM and a Lingenfelter 630hp package.

A year or 2 ago a NC CF member bought 1G1YY25Y965100060, the first black C6 Z06. He bought it from a dealer who got it through the GM auction.

These cars are not to be confused with the 15 cars with code VS7-NON-SALEABLE VEHICLE. Their vin #'s ended in "EX".

The ultimate solution was to have empty Allied trailers stop at Livonia after they delivered other Corvettes and load up the ones that were there on the way back to Bowling Green. The lots at Bowling Green filled up with returning Z06's, which were then loaded with brand new ones on the outbound trailers for final delivery. As a result, cars built in August and October were going out to dealers at the same time. Ah, those were the days . . .
Your correct as always-halfshafts and PS hose with defective fittings

This stuff is cool!

So, the first Yellow and Black Z06 was in the VIN#50 range, and in this range of VIN numbers, there was maybe 2 Orange units?

In terms of the first 50 2006 Z06s then, was the predominant colour Red, Blue, and Silver?

Thanks to ZL-1's detective work, I still have the above mentioned 00060, the first black saleable Z06. Build date of 05/10/05. So ZL-1 won't have to replicate his efforts, he sent me this:

"The listed build dates jump all over, are not in order, especially the 3 export cars I found. I suspect the build date listed is not when it comes off the line, but when the car is declared completed, which could be delayed on pilot or export cars, held for final details.

00047 - 05/04/05 - Red/titanium
00048 - 04/26/05 - Red/titanium
00049 - 05/10/05 - DSOM/ebony
00050 - 05/11/05 - DSOM/titanium
00051 - 04/27/05 - Yellow/titanium
00052 - 07/18/05 - Yellow/ebony
00053 - 05/10/05 - DSOM/ebony
00054 - 07/18/05 - Silver/ebony
00055 - 05/10/05 - Silver/ebony
00056 - 05/04/05 - Silver/red
00057 - 05/10/05 - Silver/red
00058 - 05/06/05 - Silver/titanium
00059 - 05/02/05 - Red/red
...and the first production, saleable BLACK Z06:
00060 - 05/10/05 - BLACK/ebony"

If my math is right, only six Z06s were built before mine and mine is one of five built on 5/10/05. Mine would then be anywhere from the 7th to the 11th Z built.

Might have traded it already if I hadn't known the info he provided . . .

Another forum member, Chevyhipo, decoded the engine numbers as well. He relayed that "all pilot and preproduction engines were bad there were issues with them that were corrected with the production engines. With the numbers that you gave me your engine was built on January 16, 2006 on line 2 and was the 8th one for that day."

Hope this helps.
Did I win?!!?!?!?!

Also, who here has the earliest Canadian Z06?

Let's get this one going! Take care all, and happy and safe motoring!

Mine is 513 and i picked it up on the 21st I think, but it may have been the 19th, i cant remember. Anwyay i guess i was one of the first #20 to get delivery regardless. If i dig into some documents and stuff i could find the exact date but im feeling lazy.

That reminds me of a conversation I had with one of the Wixom PBC builders back in 2005. He said they put in major overtime in June of 2005 tearing down early LS7s they had built and installing redesigned pistons (this was kept under wraps, like the issue later in the summer when customer-ordered Z06s were diverted to Roush Industries in Livonia for updated rear axles).

WD1 Pilot Z06s built up to 00161 have engine code Y in the vin, 00162 and later have code E. GM issued a bulletin stating that there is no difference in Y and E engines but it certainly is a coincidence that pistons were changed around the same time.

Does anyone know any more about the piston change in June 2005?
