Default Anyone regret adding a ZR1 front splitter??

Hey CF family,

I was wondering if anyone regrets adding a ZR1 front splitter?? The looks definitely killer but has your driving habits changed? A lot more cautious? Do you care if you scrape the bottom? Where did you get your splitter?

Thanks in advance!!

I'm waiting for my second one. When my four post lift is all the way down, no problem. I was helping a buddy on an oil change and lowered his car to take it off the lift and accidently left it raised about a half inch, never noticed it was not all the way down. Later that night I went to put my Z back on it and heard the harsh painfull sound of my $800 splitter being ripped off my frontend. I am going to good size car show in the next few days..Now I can't find anyone who has one in stock..looks to be a few weeks before they are available. I've got the carbon fiber all the way around, but have become really apprehensive about dropping another $800...especially since the other was on less than a month.. ouch. The only company that thought they may have had one checked while I was on the phone. He said he just sold his last one to a guy with a ZR1 who was on his fourth replacement. Maybe time to re-think. The OEM on my Z is looking not so bad after all. When I had it on I was much more apprehensive in my driving and I am a very mild driver. Still nervous over bumps etc..We will see.
It's not the car in the avatar. I am finishing my newest Z and will have a new pic posted this week.

Nope! Love it. Have had it on about a month no problems. In fact I thought yesterday was the end of it - a 2x4 in the road - cleared it!

if you want it to stay 100% perfect you will have to be very careful. chances are something will happen sooner or later

I think it looks dumb on a non-ZR1 car unless you have sideskirts to match.

My Dad is extremely careful and has already made a few small scuffs on his splitter....On his actual ZR1. I can tell you that it is just about unavoidable.

Here's mine on my ZR1 after a run-in with a truck tire tread during a road trip recently:

I'm waiting on my RPI replacement for about 1/3 of the price of an OE one.

I'm considering getting a Z06 one for any other trips.

If you're putting a ZR1 spoiler on your Z06, you should get the reinforcing piece. There have been several reports of a ZR1 splitter ripping off the front fascia at highway speeds because the reinforcing piece wasn't used.

Take a look at this thread about a splitter ripping off:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...n-highway.html

And here's a thread by Poor-sha with pics of installing the ZR1 splitter in the correct manner to make sure it doesn't rip off your car:

I'm on my second splitter. But I don't regret it. The look is killer especially with the side skirts.

And yes, you definitely have to tip-toe around town with it and take certain driveways at angles and avoid one's that are too steep and go around speed bumps.

You need to look down the road to see if there are any obstacles in the road. And don't follow too closely behind someone lest you wont have enough time to change lanes should a hazzard appear.

I am under no illusion that this will be my last splitter. In fact, I will be ordering a replacement just so I will have one WHEN it happens.

The splitter would last less than 1 day in my driveway and I hate to throw $800 out the window

Question about the GM fascia reinforcement part: Does the stock Z06 splitter fit with this reinforcement part installed, or is the reinforcement only good with a ZR1-style splitter? I assume it will work with a stock Z06 splitter, but wanted to check. I'm somewhat interested in installing the reinforcement to reduce fascia deformation at speed, if that makes sense.

I added a VY painted ZR1 type front splitter- I had to add 3m clear paint protection to keep the paint from chipping off. Then I hit a piece of tire in the road and cracked the splitter. I just finished adding a CF front splitter and side rails. I'm nervous, but like the looks- if I have trouble with this I'll go back to OE. I would never add a painted version unless the car is black- paint chips might not show- in VY it looked terrible after only a few miles.

Oh - the Katech front splitter really does not sit any lower than the stock Z06 splitter. Email Jason at Katech and he can send you a 3 dimensional drawing showing the fitment. It sticks out further but really does not sit any lower (maybe 1/4 inch).

I'm sure the reinforcing piece will work with the stock Z06 front spoiler/air dam, as well as the ZR1 splitter.

If you read Poor-sha's DIY splitter installation in the link in my post above, he indicates that there are 7 screws holding the OE Z06 part on, and he had to drill a few more holes where the ZR1 splitter had additional screws to attach it to the reinforcing piece.

I know when I removed my ZR1 splitter it was held on with 13 screws - you can see them in the pictures in my previous post.

So.....I'm sure the OE Z06 front spoiler will work with the reinforcing piece.
