I'm telling you right now, if you think 5w30 is enough to handle 230-250 deg oil temp, think again...hence why 15w50 is used by guys doing road course...
So why does GM recommend 5-30W on a car that they warranty the engine for 5 years, 100,000 miles? Do you think they never consulted a road course racer?

The Z06 drop valve syndrome lives on!

Can elaborate story , and answer all questions at a later time, just wanted to get thread started and see what response I get.

Did you get an entire new motor(including Super Charger and belt driven accessories, or did GM get you a new block and heads and bolt on the accessories from the faulty engine?

I would also guess we will not see as many failures on the ZR1 as the
z06 as their are less ZR1's made and the percentage of ZR1 owners that track their cars is far less then the percentage of Z06 owners that track their cars.

Was told a new (complete) eng was ordered , however GM sent a long block , supercharger , intake manifold , charge coolers etc, separately ? Essentially everthing is new , just needed some assembly . Only componants re-used were water pump , alt, p/s pump, etc. They also replaced "everything" that oil touches ( tank ,all hose's ,cooler , etc ) Not to mention also confiscating ECM , BCM , and of course the famous "black box". Overall very pleased with outcome . In regards to your second paragraph , this had nothing to do with tracking the car , and it shouldn't ! This "supercar" was made to be tracked , this was / is clearly a manufacturing defect !

And take a 3o-40K dump/loss-I wouldn't call that very smart advice in today's market.
