What are the differences between the ZO6, Callaway, Grand Sport?
Hello all:
I've been lurking on the forum for the past few months. I come from the japanese and exotic car forums. The 6th generation Corvette has proven to be a great platform and quite the contender against what's in today's market. Awesome bang for the buck and a ton of options for modifications. I've always loved the C5ZO6 for it's timeless design and in comes in at a very close 2nd. But I think the C6 the best looking of the recent generations. Kudos to Chevy!
I've been reading a number of threads in the C6 forums but could not find a clear description on the differences between the ZO6, Callaway and Grand Sport. What are the main differences between them? Engine, brakes, interior, exterior, etc? I appreciate the response!
Basically...
GS is a 6.2 L LS-3, 430 HP. Shares body with Z06, IIRC steel frame, same brakes as Z06.
Z06 is a NA 427 cu/in 427 making 505 HP. Aluminum frame, block etc.
Callaway is a SC 6.2 L starting at over 500 HP, depending which motor option.
Callaway Corvettes are new base Corvettes and Z06's delivered to Callaway factories in Connecticut and California. They're modified with the equipment shown in the literature here and shipped to a network of 25 authorized Callaway dealers.

Actually, Callaway offers two Callaway Corvettes: a supercharged "SC606" with 606 bhp using a new base 6.2L Corvette or a Grand Sport and a supercharged "SC652" making 652 bhp starting with a new 7.0L Z06.
Like Brakes, coilovers and the SC .
I don't think I'd want the full Callaway treatment Just parts of it.
Thanks
Willie
Hi Willie,
We only convert new and "slightly used" Corvettes to Callaway Corvette specs; we wouldn't build just part of the specification. Unfortunately, that means that we wouldn't install a supercharger only, and we don't install individual parts on customer cars.
Callaway brakes and suspension systems are available separately though and your local installer can install:
P/N 230.67.6945 - Brake System, Le Mans GT 380/355, 2006-11 Z06
P/N 220.60.6312 - Suspension System, 2006-11 Z06
Thanks for the responses! I've been using the search feature as often as possible and have only come upon bits and pieces of info. So I appreciate the replies.
Nice build packages on the Callaway! I like the carbon bits to dress it up a bit as well.
What is the weight difference between th ZO6 with the aluminum frame and the steel frame of a regular C6? I've read on some threads that the ZO6 is not as mod-friendly as the LS3 regarding forced induction additions (ie. supercharger/ turbos). I'm assuming the CR of the 427 is bumped a bit considering it's pumping out a good amount of HP for being NA. I like the all aluminum block.

To simplify it all just take the 3 cars put $20,000 between them all and thats the difference.

Clif,
Actually, the Corvette Grand Sport our company owns, plus the Callaway SC606 package, Callaway Short-thow shifter, and optl. exhaust slat trim comes out about the same as a comparably equipped Z06.
The Grand Sport is a 3LT Manual and had an MSRP of ~$61,300 The Callaway options added another ~$22,500 to the price of the car, for a total of ~83,800. A 2LZ Z06 is very close in cost to this
Now, one can personalize their Callaway and add addl. options to up the price however, most of our cars are about $84k for coupes and $89K for convertibles. Of course, with an automatic transmission, it adds a few more bucks, but I think the point is clear - price is very close between a Grand Sport Callaway SC606 and a comparable Z06 (MSRP to MSRP)
Just a question for the Callaway guys. Can that steering shown in the PICS (with your logo on it) be bought and installed on a non-Callaway C6 at your place in CT? Thanx.
So many choices..... and all are good. Just depends on your needs and the depth of your check book. I'm a poor working stiff (actually retired USAF) and had a very small Corvette budget so I opted for a pre-owned Z06. But if I had the $$$ I'd love a Callaway (minus the hood).

Sadly, no, at least, not per what they already posted in this thread.

I hope this helps clarify

True, but in the real world 2LZ Z06's are readily available with anywhere from 12-20k off MSRP. And every Callaway dealer I've talked to is firm on the MSRP.
None of which is your fault or problem......
And to be perfectly honest,I'd bet a Callaway will be worth well more five years down the road than a Z06.
