I've been thinking about where to mount mine also. I'm thinking I want to hang one under the car for a chase cam, one right behind the front wheel to capture counter steer angles, one on my head or on the dash and then I've got a normal camera on a harness bar for over the shoulder view. Might switch the dash view for a spot near radiator intake. I'll have to play this weekend and see what looks coolest.

Use the suction cup it is very very strong and won't leave any marks or fall off, they tested it on planes lol.
Id put it on the "side roof body panel" between the side window and rear window

The suction cup is very versatile and very strong. I used the 3M tape mount to place the camera just in front of the grill. It was extremely strong and I thought I was going to pull my paint off when I removed it. It came off without any problems though, just went slow and took my time. Check out Youtube for more mounting ideas.

Only problem I have found outside the car is the wind noise kills all the other sounds

I mount it to the roof or front fender.

This was my wife in the car at an airport Auot X we did a couple weeks ago. It makes for a cool view of the course and you get a good look at the speed and attitude of the car.

The suction cup on the mid roof sounds good as does the front bumper mounted in front of the grill. The suction cup or adhesive won't get peeled off at 150mph? It's that good?

I'm pretty sure I've read they were tested to over 200mph

Do you have any video from that vantage point?

I used the suction cup mount. In the GoPro manual it stated to use the waterproof housing, for high winds (aka driving fast). It worked out well for me as i drove the Dragon in may. Can't wait to get back to the States and drive it again. What a blast!

When I borrowed a GoPro for AX I also mounted it to the roof. It made a very nice vantage point an usually had just enough of the hood showing give a little feedback on what the car was doing while not blocking the shot. My terrible driving and spinouts made for good video

Unless the GoPro is mounted low on the rear by the license plate don't expect to hear the exhaust in your videos very well. These GoPro's are great, but really need an external mic connection...

One stickie behind the rearview and one in the dots on the rear hatch. Both work well.

Yes, it is very strong and will not come off if applied correctly. However, if it isn't applied correctly you stand the chance of losing your camera and causing damage to yours or another vehicle. Saw that happen this year. Mustang had Go Pro on hood and after a couple of laps at speed the mount came loose with the plastic portion of the mount breaking free from the suction cup and the camera then splitting the Carbon Fiber front splitter, gouging the front fascia paint, breaking through the grille and lodging itself against the oil cooler of the Z06 behind the Mustang. Damage to the Z was at least $1800 and the camera wasn't found that day.

depends on what youre trying to capture! I like in-car or rear mounted personally...

Here's a few angles...

(I actually have straight pipes in that video, not the muffler mod. My friend made a mistake)

I am thinking since carbon fiber doesn't flex much it would be cool to mount it on the front fender, behind the wheel. Since it would be very low, it would feel like you're going faster than you really are

Do not mount the suction cup on a tinted window. it will pull the tint off. Ask me how I know.

At the track I want to see the in-cockpit action, as well as the track.

The video below isn't a GoPro - it was taken several years ago with an old low-res video cam, but what I'm looking for when videoing my track sessions is how I'm driving, as well as my line and what's going on out on the track:

I want to be able to see my steering inputs at corner turn-in and through esses and chicanes, and steering reactions to those little momentary losses of traction when I'm right at the limit. You can see in the video below that I can't see what I'm doing at all - all I can see is the track:

I moved the camera back so I could get info on what my hands were doing.

However, if you're just taking video of canyon carving runs and are mainly interested in the scenery, then mounting on the outside is good.

Like Bill Dearborn said, I'd be careful about mounting on the outside for high speed track events where you might damage following cars if the camera comes loose. Many track day organizations may not allow it, or they might require a tether if the camera is mounted with a suction cup, whether inside or on the outside of the car.

Bob
