As promised, a few more photos:

Harmonic balancer:

Pfadt Double Adjustable remote reservoir coil-overs:

Pfadt ball joints. I'm tired of loosing the rubber boots out of the stock units:

Sure hope someone knows where all this "stuff" goes???

In the absence of the Z I've been getting out to the track in my Mazda Speed3. Not the same but actually it has been fun since the events have been wet. With FWD just mash the throttle until you get too much understeer. Only 268 HP so it's easy to control.

Just stay on track because there is lots of deep mud!

With any (good) luck the Z should come to life next week!

Dean

Gary, I can tell you that the Arias pistons in the 2618 alloy are lighter than the stock units. But I can't say exactly how much. It isn't a huge difference I can tell you that. A couple years ago, I had a LS7 built with the stock Ti rods and the same Arias pistons and with that combination the final bob weight was several grams lighter than the stock cast piston and Ti rod combo. That was also adding a tool steel pin and having Katech rebush the rods as well.

The Callies Dragon Slayer crank is pretty close in weight to the stock forged steel crank. Our final bob weight is a bit heavier due to the steel H beam rods we are using in place of the Ti rods. But we dropped 8 pounds of mass going with the Katech aluminun flywheel versus the stock cast iron unit. So that should offset the weight gains from the steel rods versus the Ti rods.

Getting a bit closer

Drivetrain is now coupled together

Double checking pulley alignment with laser alignment tool, seeing how there is a new ATI balancer and a new turn one PS pump I wanted to make sure that the pulleys were all lined up. Mainly because if there is a problem, its a RPITA to do in the car!

New remote oil filter, and engine oil cooler lines

Updated power steering line allowing additional room for oil lines

Wire harness routed and repaired. There were a few connectors that was broken, insulation that was compromised that all needed repair before reinstalling the engine.

A few more pictures from today:

Setrab oil cooler from Gary at ARE (the dry sump guy) mounted in place

Shot of the oil cooler lines still needing to be connected, all lines upgraded to #10 lines.

Shot of the new ARE tank and associated lines

Shot of the remote oil filter/cooler lines and the new ARE pan

Another shot of the remote lines, note that all the lines are protected with an aramid (kevlar) sleeve and an additional reflective heat shield was applied to all the hoses where needed. I did this to further protect the hoses from abrasion and of course heat.

Awesome job, Tom. Wish I could get some time away from work to come down for a visit.

Tom, is it possible to retro fit an ARE dry sump system into a GS (LS-3) w/A-6 transmission and a battery re-location. (2012, GS).

Thanks,

Mike

I keep looking at Toms photos but they don't look correct, everything is so different. Sure hope he is putting the motor into the correct car!

With any luck it will rumble to life tomorrow!

Finally Deans car is running!

Deans new LS7 all comfy in the engine bay

First start and idle after a quick base calibration for start up. It was late, and a long day getting all the little details done in order to start the engine tonight at 8PM. I still have a coupe loose ends to complete before tuning tomorrow. Just when I think I am done, something else is found. For instance, after getting the exhaust hung and torqued down. I noticed that the transmission cooler lines are laying on the header collector. Not a big issue normally. But because we have an aftermarket oil pan, the normal mouting point for the cooler lines are not there. So I have to make something to support the tubing. Just little stuff like that keeps stalling completion.

Picked up the car last Monday but have been super busy with work. All spare time was spent getting ready for a track event last Saturday.

Dyno results:

That should be equal to 620+/- HP at the crank. Once it is broken in a little more it will go back for extra dyno tuning.

The track event started at freezing and the tires are left over from last summer. Spent all morning taking it easy and checking out the car. Just when I started to pick up the pace in the afternoon I had an oil line fail. I kept it on track and shut it down quickly and very thing seems to be OK. We are replacing all the new oil lines and fittings with a more secure option (two piece Aeroequip).

I have events on the 18th, 20th and 22nd to restart the testing process.

Dean

Very nice Dean and hopefully you saved it in time with the oil line issue (I am sure you did). Keep us informed how it goes.
