I'm another 2%'r then I guess. 48,033 miles. Bought it with 45500. Cylinder #4 valve.
Happened on the last drive before winter, I was planning on doing heads this winter.

Low RPM, off throttle, was able to shut it down ASAP. Sounded like I drove over something like fresh tar on the road, but I've always dreaded when that noise would come and was unfortunately practicing hitting the engine off button.

Sorry this happened, a lot of $$ out the door. Good luck in your replacement build.

So whats your damage.

Maybe you should start your own thread about your experience and repairs

please explain how headers and an intake are going to cause valve drops. And also why many other ls engines get modded and don’t have this problem

You are taking your chances of dropping a valve if you haven't addressed the defective heads. Eventually the valves get loose and don't seat properly. You may be one of the fortunate ones and go 50K miles or more without a problem, but why risk $15K in engine damage? I had mine done and the car had 2,100 miles on it, but I went with some performance upgrades and stage2 heads. My performance shop in Dallas forewarned me and these guys are highly knowledgeable on Corvettes and the LS7. Call it an insurance policy.

I bought my 2007 Z06 last October 2017. One owner with 17,000 mi. The original engine was destroyed with 7300 mi in early 2008. Current motor has 10,000 miles on it. I just couldn't take the chance to blow another one so I got Level 4 heads from AHP. So glad I did! Those guys are amazing and not I feel free to drive it like I want to without having to worry about a valve dropping. Small price to pay for peace of mind.
C6 Z06 is an awesome car and it's been my dream car for a while. I love so much now that I have addressed the valve issue. The 2nd best thing I've done is put in an MGW Shifter. What a great product. Such an improvement of the stock shifter.
