Gut the cats on the cheap. Or long tubes without cats on the expensive side.

Do a search for the "muffler mod" and you'll find a widely used solution. Some Vette specialty shops even keep a set of modded mufflers in stock. If you can do some basic cutting and welding you can make it a DIY project.

NO

as Les stated they open up the stock mufflers and weld in a solid pipe removing the perforated pipe inside the muffler.

Nothing is "cheap" on these cars. If you want more sound, get an X pipe or headers, or both.

The "muffler mod" is pretty cheap. I did mine for $20.

X2 on the muffler mod. Makes it sound so much better and a little louder.

Modify the bypass valves each butterfly valve "hangs" open about 3/16-in.

There is instructions on another web site on how to do this, but I cannot post a link because CF rules prohibit me from doing so.

Google search "Blue Bullet Blog the C6 Ownership Experience" then go to post #169.

The mod takes about an hour and costs a couple of bucks for the parts.

Default Will they fit?

I just bought a dual mode exhaust set off a 2012. My vette is a 2008. I see now that it was changed in 09. Will I be able to make them fit? Thanks

Yes, the axle back setup will fit just fine. Mid pipes from 12/13 cars wont fit on 06-11 cars, or vice versa.
