Default Blow engine. Where should i go from here?

Hello Everyone,

I just found out i blew the motor on my 2007 Z06 (48,000 miles). I still owe 28k on on the loan. I look for advise on on what direction to go in. Will it be cheaper to replace the engine (quoted 12k) or should i just scrap the car? Im trying to figure out witch would be cheaper. Im sure there are plenty of post already about this, but I just dont have the time or energy to look through all of them.

A strait answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry to hear yet another LS7 go down...

Since you still owe so much, you're better off replacing the engine, enjoy it for a few years then sell it or keep it.

If you sell it as a roller now, you likely will not get more than 15-17k for it. So you'll have to come up with 10-12k to payoff the lien. At least with option #1, you have a new engine and a Z06 to enjoy!

Try and source a used motor (LS7), and get back on with your life...albeit a tad poorer now. If you scrap the car; as already mentioned, you'll need to come up with the shortage. You may able to get it back on the road for under a $10K investment. So now you're into the car for ~$38K....and you could probably get $32-33K for it if its in clean shape. Now you're $5-6K upside-down versus $10-12K if you scrap the car.

PS - Where are you located...lots of good people on here willing to help if they know your vicinity.

I live in the Seattle area. I think I am going to replace the engine. i found a shop that can get the engine for 8k. but wants 4,200 to do to do the swap.

Can i get a better deal on the engine and work anywhere else?

There are two z06's on Craigslist right now being parted out. They are in the Kent area. Check it out.

Don't forget there are lots of other parts that need to be cleaned or replaced when fixing a blown motor. Oil tank, oil cooler, lines, radiator, etc.

The lowest quote i have gotten so far is 3,600. I would love to find a shop that could do it for under 3k.

I just sent my 07 Z06 into a shop with 48K ,doing a head change! I was lucky just thought I needed a tune up and heard about the head valve problem. He said I was lucky she did not blow by now with 48k. I had no clue there was a problem like this!!

Sorry to hear of this. Did you ever have your heads re-worked given the cylinder head valve issue? Do you know if it is a dropped valve? I wish you the best of luck in getting it repaired and back on the road.
