100 low lead Avgas
#21
My airplane has aluminum fuel tanks that are 50 years old. Should I be worried? Aviation fuel has a lot of lead. 100LL has about twice as much lead as the 80/87 my airplane was designed for and probably 10 times as much lead as the old leaded car gas. I spend a lot of time digging lead ***** out of the spark plugs (that cost $40/ea).

Drifting
You are right, I have no idea why it doesn't rust out aircraft equipment. And aircraft now does have lower lead levels than previously. I have just observed that it rusts out piping and storage tanks compared to unleaded gasoline which is minimal.
