Default Solution in search of a problem

I recently took it in for a replacement and the Autozone manager put the battery on their tester. She pronounced it fine and sent me on my way. My alternator is original equipment. So what's wrong with it again? I forgot.

Well when you are going to do this do it all.

- remove the charging loop from the alternator to the starter, hook it directly to the fuse box, and then run a lead down to the starter.
- replace the starter with one that's not ac delco, they suck and the solenoids die all the time.
- upgrade to the big 3 cabling, also get a good battery.
- check the fan controller, it's known for melting
- switch out to the dewitts radiator, they also have a brushless fan combo that pulls a lot less voltage.
- replace the alternator with one from mechman, they take the heat

If you just want to fix the car it's likely the fan controller that's melted down on you but all of the above will help eliminate most of the electrical demons I have chased down on the C6 Z06.

I think the factory fan pulls more than 24 amps it has a 60 amp breaker and it has been know to melt the connectors which are rated at 46 amps. I think also when you put an aftermarket radiator in it makes it worse as it need more current to pull through. I think also the dual Spal Fans that everyone sells draw like 30 amps (based on Spal Chart) and I do not think they melt the connectors (at least mine did not but with factory fan I did) so that would indicate the factory fan draws more than 30 amps.

Removing the fusible link is very hack-ish. It was made like that to protect the charging system. Terrible advice.

The starter is already an aftermarket starter

I already had a "big 3" when this problem started.

The fan controller was not melted and the connectors were just fine.

I replaced the fan and the same problem still happened.

Simply replaced it with another alternator that was under warranty.

Went through several alternators, the mechman seem to be able to take the heat under the hood which in Houston, TX can get hot.
