Default A&A vortech install progress

The installation of my A&A vortech kit is complete. I was going to tackle this myself, but I wanted it done before summer so I thought I should have someone do it for me. Prostreet motorsports in Rowlett instaleed it for me. The install looks clean and professional. I am very pleased with their work.

My goal in building this car has been stealth so I opted for the super quiet SQ trim. Let me tell you that this car is quiet. We could not believe how quiete the car is except for the headers.

The real pain in the butt has been the tuning. The ECM and TCM were locked by the previous tuner that used ls2 edit. They don't tune these type of superchargers so I couldn't use them again. I am using Brian at RPM in lewisville and he stated that I needed to get it unlocked, so we trailer the car back to the original shop to get it unlocked. NO problem but that wastes the day.

The next day things start off better, Brian is able to load in his baseline program and we get it on the DYNO. Its on the dyno and he has it up to about 4K RPMs and it shuts down. So he's trying to do his thing and eventually he is on the phone with HP tuners. We go to get lunch and when we get back, the car is off the dyno and is back on the trailer.

They explain that the ECM was unlocked, but the TCM was still locked and that was causing problems with hptuners. So it's back over to the original shop. They try to flash it back to original, but they can't find my original TCM prgram. They had my origianl ECM, but not TCM. I am going to have to take it to the dealer because their tech 2 is broken.

Off to the dealer we go. Just to be safe we have them flash the ECM back to factory stock - no problem. Then we have them flash the TCM back to factory stock. - big problem. The TCM will not flash back to factory stock. I need to buy another TCM. This dealership does not have one in stock. The one in grapevine does, but it is after 5:00 PM and we can't make it out there before they close.

I have the new TCM and it was installed last night. We have to back to the dealership to have them flash the TCM. I don't know what they have to do, but t needs to be done.

Anyway, I just wanted to let out some of my frustration. When the car wsa on the dyno, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. It was such a rush and then to have the rug pulled out from under me, was gut wrenching. I am hopeful that I will report some numbers on Monday, I don't want to get my hopes up yet.

Cheers

Todd

Hang in there and let us know what happens.

Please tell what options you went with in the kit!

Had the same problem. I feel your pain. The tuner who tuned my Vette with LS 2 Edit swore he did not select the "lock" option. Had to replace my PCM anyways. Just one more reason to avoid LS 2 Edit unless you want to have the lock-out feature enabled.

The problem was not the install. It was the previous tune.

Let me tell everybody my .02 cents.

I bought my 05 in October of of 05. I bought it used with 5K miles. I started researching the mods I wanted to do. I chose the first shop because of their reputation. They gave me good advice on my cam choice based on want I wanted to do in the future. They seem more than willing to accomodate me based on my wallet size. I am sorry, but I get the feeling that their customer service is based on how much I am willing to spend with them without asking questions.

Donnie at Prostreet gives me daily updates and is wiling to go the extra mile. From my limited exposure to RMP, I get the same feeling. I like both shops are excellent, It's just that I went with Prosreet for the install and RPM for the tune. Both shops have been great. The tune problem is neither of their faults. Like I said both have apologized to me for the problems even though it is not their fault. I feel that I should apologize to them.

I have had nothing but excellent service from both shops (RPM and Prostreet).

I do not mention the other shop by name because they have a good reputation. I also know that you can not have 100% customer satifaction. The unamed shop did not meet my expectations. That does not mean they will not meet yours. All I am saying is that Prostreet and RPM have gone above and beyond the call to meet mine. I have no problems recommending both.

Look, I understand protecting your tune (it's kind of like intellectaul property), but each car is different, and if you need to copy someone elses tune to acomplish the task, then I don't need you touching my car. RPM doesn't need to lock their tune because they have confidence in their abilities.

I will not bash the first shop for locking my tune because my expectaions were met. It is just that in the 8 months since, I have become A more informed consumer (thanks to this forum) and My expectations were raised. If I did not have my car tuned by ls2 edit, I don't know if this would have been an issue.

Please just keep this in mind, that's all I want to tell people.

The first shop advised me on the cam based on my future goals and they were correct.

Thanks and please ask any questions, this has been a tremendous learning experience.

I fogot to thank Brian at ICS performance for the gauges. Cheers mate.

The last week has been painfully hard, but it will all get fixed and I'll be back on the road in no time.

Thanks to all for the words of encouragement, it may seem insignificant, but it really does help.

again, thanks

Todd
