So at what point does the traction starts to become an issue, i mean rwhp wise for say better rubber? hoosiers/PS2s?
500?
600?
700?
and what else could be done besides rubber and loosening of that right foot?
In addition to tire type, I think it depends in part on torque and at what RPM you begin to near the peak horsepower. In my Maggie c5, I had right around 400 rwhp before I added a cam and still in 1st gear I could toast the street tires anywhere up to a good 30 mph. I added a cam and got around 440 rwhp and that was it for the entirety of first gear.
My 403 C6 is naturally aspirated and is probably around 440 rwhp and can kill the factory tires anywhere in first as well.
I found moving to drag radials as a better traction choice than going wider, but for everyday driving they have drawbacks, too.
Big power, street driving = Drag Radials. If you do alot of winter/wet weather driving then you would need to swap tires but for heavy summer use and mild winter use, the DR's do the trick. I keep mine mounted 365 days a year.
with nothing more than a stock Z, I could smoke the tires all the way up to 60 Mph in first, second somtimes gets tricky as well. I wonder what will happen to the traction department after I get that vortech on, haha I will update you!
