Default boost and headers

well just installed the boost gauge recently, with catless kooks, and a free flowing exhaust, my boost dropped from the Vortech advertised 6.5PSI to sub 5, am guessing about 4.9PSI @ max revs (7000 RPM) does this sound right?

What happens here is the s/c with the pulley it came with stock is design to support advertised power/boost on a stock engine. Once you improve the efficently the exhaust back pressure drops and the boost falls off. To make the most of your upgrade you will need to speed up the blower.

Yes, It is normal.
The increased flow with the headers is what is causing the drop to 5psi.
You are making the same power with less boost.
Time for a smaller supercharger pulley to take advantage of your headers and bring your boost back up to 6.5psi.

Hey Perry, problem is there isnt any pulley smaller than 4.5 that would yeild a 1-1.5 increase in boost, the next pulley on the line is a 3.8 which is way small

Im not sure if a procharger pulley would work, guesses?

Can you PM me once you purchase the 4.10 pulley and install it? Do you need to change the current pulley belt with the smaller 4.10 pulley? By the way, where do you see the information on the 4.10 pulley? On their site, all they have is 3.80 and 4.50 pulley. Thanks

I was just wondering because cartek told i would loose boost with headers but make super charger more eficient. so I thought I was to safe to raiseback up to at say 6 1/2 pounds so I called and its a new item dont hold me to it I think belt is with it

man you might be able to make that much power, but the engine wont be able to handle it. I am also thinking of a blower cam, but im woring on fixing the bad surging first, and I instially loved the idea that the car would drive just like stock. I think ill switch to a smaller pulley, fix the tune and call it done.

If I mod the car, ill change the rear-end ratio.

I always recommend checking the air/fuel ratio after any mods that affect boost are done. You're probably okay, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Bob

Just got off the phone with Vortech and they told me that they don't make a 4.10 pulley and have no plans on making one.

Andy from A&A does have a 4.00 pulley however because he has a different mounting bracket than Vortech, not sure how the belt from A&A would fit.

They just finished mine. I am having the pulley changed also. My heads/cam/headers barely let the procharger make 5psi. cartek is installing a smaller pulley to up the boost a little.
