Default Smell

I have the procharger kit in my stock ls3.. Under wide open throttle in 3rd gear I'm getting a weird smell.. The kit only has 100 miles on it.. Oil temp only 213 and coolant temp under 215.. When I stop and check under the hood I don't smell anything and it does go away quickly..

Noticable even the girlfriend smells it.. Thanks

Is your car a stick or auto?

Does it smell like burnt oil?

Is there anything on the rear bumper/fascia of the car? (like a nasty residue of some kind)?

Does the car smoke at all just before, during, or right after hard WOT?

The car is a manual.. Nothing but dirt grime on the exhaust and rear fascia.. I thought it was the burnt tire smell but Its been doing it without the tires breaking loose.

I thought it might be burnt oil but it goes away quickly after and no burnt smell right after when I check under the hood.. I've checked for leaks and don't see any..

Is burnt oil smell normal.. When I asked procharger if I should use the valve cover breather cap they said I might smell oil if I used that which I'm not using.. Thanks

Do you have methanol injection?
My car is a procharged c6 D1sc 403 forged 16lbs boost with methanol only smells (rotten eggs) when methanol is injected.

16lb boost, are you in the area of 700+ rwhp?

If you have the factory close coupled catalysts, you may be baking the washcoat off of them if the EGTs are too high. (Is COT is turned off in your tune?)

Nope, its the rotton egg smell of boost. Im not sure if its just the compressed air or maybe the rubber cupplings, but mine does it too. My blowoff valve is on the drivers side and everytime I come off the gas from a WOT run I smell it too. Its the same smell as the air in your tires when you let it out. Its no issue, and depending on where your blowoff valve is you might smell it bad. No worries.

My blower has been on for over 3 years and never once has it ever had an odor of "rotten eggs". Seems that could be a major purchasing deterrent for superchargers in general if that was the case.

sounds like someone might need a tune

Last car I have smelled like gas because injector were not scaled correctly after it was tuned no more smell maybe thats what it could be.

Only a couple smells a car can produce. No cats cause musty rotten egg smell, Burning Oil , clutch being slipped, electrical burning, or the gas from tune being to rich.

Thanks for answering the questions!

You are either cooking the cats, burning the clutch (and smelling it) OR the blow off valve theory above is a very reasonable one.

Well it's not fuel.. Could be burnt oil but when I stop immediately and check under the hood no noticeable smell.. Also the clutch would smell after driving it hard also if it was slipping.. The car has 2000 miles on it with only 510rwhp so I would hope the clutch would be good for a little while..

Like I said the smell lasts in the car for no more than 30 seconds after wot.. It is not rotten egg smell..

At least you've got something to blame if you "blast one" with a passenger in the car...... Um, don't worry, that's just boost!
