Default Procharger Heat Issues

Guys,

I previously saw on the forum some issues about Procharger heat in the C6's since the single, big intercooler sits so dang close to the radiator. I know some people did modifications to the radiator support brace to allow the bottom of the intercooler to tilt forward a couple inches, but I believe those posts have been removed.

I really need to do something soon. I was seeing average oil temps of around 232-234F just driving at 73 mph with the cruise on today. Temperature outside was 94F. I didn't look at coolant temperatures too much, but I'd say they were probably around 210F most of the day (took a 3 hour drive from Atlantic City up to New York today and had the same temps on the way down two days ago).

If any of you have pictures and/or specific information about the modificaiton I mentioned earlier or if you have any other modification ideas, please post up on the forum. Any kind of help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

OUCH...

I've always read on this forum to search for "Big Bollas Mods" for the Procharger... Maybe you could try that?

I knew I had seen the mods before, and I did a lot more searching using those key words and came across the thread.

For those of you who haven't seen the thread or can't find it b/c it's been buried, here it is:

Procharger now includes a modified radiator cradle with its SC like the one Big Bollas developed.

Procharger has been very good about listening to their customers and modding their system to higher levels of efficiency. If you have the newer version of their kit thse issues have been addressed with the new cradle Lance LJo spends a lot of time on the forums doing research and listening, and he obviously has some serious pull because our issues and fixes are getting passed on and versions of the system keep getting better and better... Now if they'd just start using High Temp silicone couplers and nicer clamps... Not that they are needed by any means, but they do add a ton of "neatness" to the system... or at least offer them as an option...

Default Temps

Gentlemen,

Are these temp actually that bad? oil 232, coolant 210.... My A A will get that high as well with 95 degree heat and spirited driving as well. These are actually max numbers for me as I never not seen anything higher.

What number is too high for oil??

I have the same question. What number is too high (for both oil and coolant) on the LS2? On my way down to Atlantic City, I had a Lamborghini Murcielago pull up next to me. I was already running at 232F for oil and of course had to show him that his $200K+ vehicle couldn't touch mine, but eventually slowed down when my oil when up to 241F. I have no idea if that's too high or what?

And yes, I smoked him.

Patrick .... I remember we discussed this last year when we did that run upstate ...

230's on the oil temp is FINE , its when it goes into the 26-270's and higher you need to start getting concerned . However , it should not be reading that high when just cruising at 70 mph , but thats the nature of the beast with the Procharger .

There are a number of things you can do to get it under control - I had the same issues on my old 07 that was Procharged as well . What I did was as follows .

Clean the intercooler and radiotor regularly ( pressurized air and water ). THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE , and I would do it at least once a month , you woudnt believe the **** that gets trapped in there . I also had the Vette Doctors remove my radiator and intercooler and clean them from the inside . A tremendous amount of dirt came out of them , but its an expensive service .

The Bollas mod where you angle the intercooler all the way out .

Cut the top of the air dam to allow more airflow ( made a huge differance )

Ran straight Watter Wetter ( helped a little ) .

Good luck

When I first installed my D1 I worried about the temps. I did the I/C Switcharoo, angled the intercooler out more and it helped a lot. Then I saw the thing about cleaning out between the oil cooler and radiator...holy crap. The shop had a modified air tool (imagine a thing of canned air with endless supply and a 2ft wand lol). We also had a scrub brush used on dishes and within 45min I had the Sahara desert under my car. Took it for a drive the next day, my coolant temps stay at 196, oil temps float just above 210...and my a/c blows cold even at a red light. Before if I stopped at a light the a/c would stop blowing cold. Now I try to keep up with this once a month like suggested since mines a DD. Think Ive put roughly 13k miles on the clock within 6mths.

We just installed the updated procharger kit (D1 head unit) on my C6Z along with low temp theromostat and can say the oil temp has remained as low as prior to the install, and the water temp is now lower! thanks mostly to the tune controlling the fan and low temp thermo.

Anyway, I've been driving the car in various conditions (ex. stop/go traffic, high speed runs, mountain blasts, etc. FWIW ambient temp has been in the 90's here since we installed it. I think the old issues were solved with the new rad. support. I couldn't be happier with this setup and it's the third C6Z with a D-1SC procharger we've messed with!

p.s. I do have a boost Q that I'll start another thread about though
