Default Overheating w/FI?

Hey All,

I used to have an '02 Z06 with a A&A procharger on it with the dual core radiator. It would overheat after one lap at Road Atlanta. Has anyone come up with a solution to FI overheating issues for cars used on track days?

tia,
Jim

Although I can't speak from a road race perspective, I was running at 260* on the the road in stop/go traffic in our 95-100 degree North Carolina summer heat. Finally solved the problem with a different intercooler design that blocked less of the cooling area of the radiator(2 smaller units plumbed together vs. one large unit) and a 160* thermostat. Now I rarely surpass 200* even on the hottest days in traffic.

Thank you for the reply. I'll be living back in Florida next year so I'll be in the same heat you experience.

With A&A's design, I never had a problem in traffic but the large intercooler would block too much air going to the radiator. I'm wondering if the STS setup would be a good one to use.

AA has since redesigned their C6 intercooler setup so much more air reaches radiator/condensor. see latest design on their web page

I remember Andy said they had a kit that enclosed the area around the radiator allowing only one way for the air to go....through the radiator.

Steve, have you had any customers road track their cars and not have the overheating issues or should I resign myself to the fact that FI is just big power for the street and strip?

You can see in the above pic that the air that goes around the intercooler will go to the radiator with the side sheet metal pieces.

There are some guys out there road racing the cars. One is Richard... check out his blog here. I will try to dig up some others....

Thanks Steve!! Andy helped me make 712rwhp with my small 347 and an antiquated P1SC back in '05. You guys produce proven performance and outstanding CS. Just want to use that big power to walk some folks on the back straight at Road Atlanta on track days.
