Default Methanol mixture

Does anyone who uses methanol know how close -20* windshield washer/deicer is to a 50/50 water methanol mixture is?
There's a sale on this washer fluid 2/$3.00.
Thanks,

I'm tuned for 50/50. I have no problem getting 100% methanol.
Thanks..

im going to go ahead and say that ww fluid, is not going to be 50/50. usually the -20 stuff is 33% meth

you can find more info on ww at meth injection using google. esp on the grand national forums

You should just tune for straight meth. What meth system are you running?

i've used the "blue" windshield washer fluid for over 2 years in my daily driver a highly modded turbo Subaru [22 psi 324 whp] with zero issues. don't get caught up in that BS that you have to run high percentages of meth for it to work well, the blue ww fluid works great. Walmart usually has it on sale.

If your car is tuned for 100% meth and you listen to this guy... you will be buying a motor. Guaranteed.. Spend the whopping $7 a gallon and keep you engine alive.. I know I could not be making 700+ with less than 100% and be as safe as it is..

I agree with everything you say except I buy my methanol for $3.75 a gallon.

i agree if your engine is tuned to get every last horsepower available i.e. a track car that you're making money with or a dyno queen for bragging rights you will need 100% meth. on the other hand a street car tuned as a daily driver that will see all weather and temperature conditions and still make respectable power safely the blue ww fluid is great. the blue ww fluid is also readily available, cheap to buy and no mixing.

I would not risk burning up a $20K engine to save a couple dollars running walmart wiper fluid.

you're not risking a damn thing if the car is tuned for the % of meth you're using. hell, if it's tuned properly you could use straight water with good results. it's true you can run more timing/boost and get higher hp from straight meth but for a street car that gets driven daily it's really not needed. you boys do what you want and good luck.

btw you can purchase the blue ww fluid at most gas stations in the midwest.

I have the tune for 50/50. I want it that way to have a safe tune not to run the engine on it's edge.
My 97 was tuned for 100% methanol and ran great.
I'm just was interested in ww fluid so I don' have to mess with mixing the water and methanol.
If my tune was for 100% methanol, I wouldn't even attemp to use ww fluid.

Here's a short list of different windshield washer fluids and their perspective methanol content. You'll find that even -20 degree windshield wiper generally contains approx 30% methanol. I haven't been able to find out anything more on the topic of Ethylene Glycol. I'm sure we talked about this already. Another choice for fluid would be denatured alcohol which you can buy at Home Depot.

Thanks DC, this is great information for us who wondered about the percentage in these ww fluids.
I guess I'll stick to mixing my own with meth and DW....Splash -30* has the highest rate at 41% methanol. Even the -20* Peak has 33%.

but you're not running VP Fuels M3 like we are... with the additives for anti oil consumption, that will make your cylinders and rings happy... there is a reason my little LS2 has been able to stay together with the power it makes for so long, a TON of preparation has gone into the right setup (for me) and part of said setup is 100% VP M3... I buy it by the 55gal drum and it comes to $6.42/gal... however run what you wish

Good points! I have run about 5 gallons of the M3 when I run out at the track. I have 295 1/4 mile passes on this motor and multiple hard street runs without issue! Pushing 25 psi on 91 octane. Not on an LS motor though. Completely different application.

After your post I probably will switch over to the M3 permanently. Thanks for the info.
