Default supercharged... need headers?

i am considering going with a supercharger for my 05,heard some conflicting views on the idea of using headers or not. i heard that headers have a tendency to hold alot of heat and cause a potential fire? is this the case or should/could i use stock manifolds?

Fire? Thats just crazy talk!
Headers arent needed but for most they are a building block to more HP/TQ.

Pick up a set of Kooks or ARH longtubes and the matching x pipes. You will not be disapointed. Its money well spent.

Superchargers want exhaust flow. Headers are a must.

I'm using DynaTech's 1 7/8" Stainless Steel ceramic coated headers on my ProCharged 05. With headers, you can run a smaller pulley on the SC to increase the boost, as headers will suck approx 1.5 psi from your boost. Check with your tuner.

You dont need headers at all on a stock car.. Most of the cars we do are on stock exhaust systems. Headers dont make the car run any better, just make more power. They are worth about 30-35 on a stock supercharged car. Its more about how much power do you want...

Interesting to know that. A couple of us just finished up an install for a friend whose car is 100% stock and I was curious as to how many are running around with that same "stealthy" configuration. Although I'm sure this car is not a dyno champ I can assure the OP that the "Blower Only Mod" still fits in the category of "scary fast" compared to bone stock.

This not always the case. I added 1 7/8" ARH long tubes (with high flow cats) to my A&A Vortech kit (with 3.8" pulley) to try and drop the boost from the original 10 psi with the stock exhaust manifolds. The header addition did not drop the boost at all but it did allow 1 degree of additional timing to be added (with 91 octane gas) which resulted in 18 hp increase in power.

One of my buddies put on the A&A kit with his 06 A6 and no headers, stealthy and fast, it is his daily driver and last year he took it from San Antonio, to the Museum 1k each way and zero issues, he has put 20k+ on the kit and the same belt. Oh on the way to BG he was in the group I was leading and him and an 08Z (stock) did a few roll ons and the blower pulled away each time, nothing wrong with just a blower, better gas mileage than HC setup

Default Vote for headers!

Coated headers, keep under the hood cooler! More power and more longevity. No headers is going to have lots of heat. Summer heat 100 degree weather, riding around using any boost, hello cooked feet! Stock cats are going to die!! Headers really are a must! Esp the ARH 1 7/8 the cats are downstream futher. I added a metal heat sheild. Heat is no issue!

My procharged C6 has the Z06 exhaust - manifolds right thru to the exhaust tips. This gives the car a full 3" exhaust - has the bi-mode operation (quiet and loud) and has lots of flow...

Lower cost as well - you can buy exhaust take-offs fom guys right on this forum.

Here's one F/S - it's the muffler section - the manifolds and pipes are also easy to find in the F/S section.

"blower only" here.....

I wouldn't call it "stealthy" though as it's got a big hole in the hood that you can see and hear the blower pretty well through...

The exhaust is quiet with the NPP closed, but anyone who knows what a blower and/or BOV sound like knows SOMETHING is going on.

Here's the rest of the system - so for about $1000 you have a complete exhaust....

i had just a catback when i put on my A&A vortech and my cats actually went bad. something was happening and making my boost to go up to 9+psi. i got a set of lpp headers for $750 shipped (look fantastic and very simple install) and it brought my boost back down to about 5 and change. it was on the dyno when we saw it boost to over 9 (they were retuning cause my tuner learned some new tricks), knock sensors were going nuts and pulling all the timing :O
