I bought the car a few months ago. When I got it home and up on the lift I noticed that there was a good amount of oil residue on the underside of the headunit. I talked to the previous owner who wasn't as "in touch" as I am with the car. He did say that it has always been that way. There are around 5K on the blower. I have always been a Paxton guy and this is my first procharger, but I understand its not uncomon for them to leak and blow seals.
The oil doesn't appear to be leaking from the main shaft, so I'm guessing its the volute seal. To get me through the summer I'm going to drain out whats in there now and replace it so I know its full. This winter I'll have to send it out.
Two questions:
How much of a pain is it to just take the head unit off to send out?
Should I step up to a D1 instead of fixing the P1? Its my understanding that Procharger offers the upgrade for like $800. The car has a stock bottom end and heads. I don't really need anymore power as I'm already making 620rwhp. I'm just wondering if it would be smart to upgrade if I'm already coming out of pocket $200 to get the seals replaced on the P1.
Pulling the blower off is not that big of a deal. At least it wasn't for me. As far as upgrading, idk what the warranty info is on a rebuilt one but if you get a new D1 from procharger I bet it comes with a longer warranty against defective parts/seals. This alone would make sense to me. Also, this is the opportunity to turn a bad situation into a good one by upgrading, lol.
You may want to check to see if the P1 has the 3 year warranty unless you know for certain it's older than that. The post above would be incorrect concerning a longer or better warranty on the D1.
I read through a few more posts regarding the upgrade to the D1. I was wrong, I guess its a $1500 upgrade. I'll just have to see. I'm already at the max safe power level with my stock bottom end / tranny / rearend so more power isn't really a huge deal.....wait, did I just say that

I was not saying that a D1 warranty is better or longer. I was saying a new D1 may have a longer warranty than a rebuilt P1. Since it is new and not rebuilt. I would assume the same about a rebuilt D1. I have not looked into this so this could be wrong too. I was just saying it is something to look into when making a decision.
when you take a look at the drrain plug you'll see that the design is funny. I tried swapping the nylon washer for an o-ring but it just deformed. Thought I had pics on my old thread but I don't. Just some background.
Just stick with the P1-SC-1. Unless you are ready to start building your bottom end. You are close to the end of the road on the stock bottom end. Not there yet but close. A D1-SC will most likely end up putting you on the timer.
5 Leter Eater....did you ever try a bit of RTV on the threads of the drain plug? I live in a place that I will have to order EVERYTHING....so it makes these things an extra pain in the ****.
I just ordered some oil from Procharger so I'll swap it out and try and seal the drain plug better. It will be a week before it gets to me so....

You need to be sure not to put any pipe dope or teflon on the leading edge of any fitting to eliminate the possibility of contaminating the oil or anything foreign entering the case.
