1 psi is fine. 5 psi is fine too but will require a little more force to open.
I have one that mounts directly to the 044.
Those check valves looks like this one:
These are available at Jay Racing. They work but the pressure bleeds off, but they have a decent valve that will keep the lines charged with fuel even though the pressure is gone the lines are full. So when you key up there is literally instant fuel pressure.
I personally use the OE Bosch check valve that comes on the 044 pump. But you have to use a banjo fitting in order to use this and a 90 or a 180 fitting. That check valve works excellent and holds pressure in the line well.
I picked up that one for the bosch pump but also want to know if I can still use the one you had on the T-fitting up front that has the stock line feeding it. I would assume you dont want fuel backing up into either pump when its not on. However, if there isnt one on the stock pump's line does it contribute to a higher HP support? I have read that if two pumps are in parallel, you need for them to be the same or one can overpower the other hence two check valves.
Thanks everyone for sharing info on these systems. really want to learn how systems like this work so I can one day make a system that will support 2000hp on a Geo Metro.
