I had an A@A V2 installed a couple weeks ago and have gone through 2 BAP's. It is there new one they have, not the ken Bell. Steve and Andy have been great in helping me out get new parts. I am actually getting sent a KB one soon (i hope). I was just curious if anyone else, at all, out there has had any problems at all.
Bassically i keep blowing fuses at the alternater connection. This in turn is shot back to the BAP where I find out that the B+ is getting continuity to the ground.
yes they are pretty simple. I had my installer do the first one and I did the second one since i didn't make it home.
I checked everything with a multimeter and got good readings. Actually I was helped by another installer, Arron at SG corvettes. I don't know what else it could be.
I didn't really have any issues before the install. Only issue i really had is the stupid 2005 battery drain. I know i can supposedly have the DBS flashed and it will fix it, but I am afraid my tune will be lost and the car will run horrible then.
Of course i have had no battery issues for like 2 months now...
I am open to any ideas or trouble shooting here. I don't want to be sent a KB and then fry that too. A@A is being so helpful here and the last thing i want to find out is my car is jacked and i fried all the stuff for no reason!!!!
I've been running a KB BAP for 3 1/2 - 4 years with 0 problems.
I have heard of a few MSD BAP failures, but not 2 in a row. I would definitely look at the wiring.
The racetronix harness will do nothing to fix this problem.
Derek: who makes that boost-a-pump?
If you have to keep replacing BAPs they are not the problem. Unless its the fuel pump itself the harness would eliminate any wiring problems with the BAP.
Guys this is not a KB nor a MSD Boost-A-Pump. It's yet another brand and is wired differently. It carries a dedicated heavy gauge wire directly from the amp box to the terminal on the alternator. I'm hoping the OP will chime in and tell us who the manufacturer was.
Do you have the MSD Boost-A-Pump? If so, then join the club. I have been stranded twice because of one and all MSD says they can do is to repair it if I send it in. So far, repairs have not been successful. But this matches my experience with some other MSD boxes in the past, so I'm not really surprised.
I'm upgrading the in tank pump and throwing the msd box as far as I can into the deepest water I can find.
I'm pretty sure this (link below) is the one the OP has. I haven't seen these used elsewhere but the B+ terminal connects to a heavy gauge wire that runs directly to the alternator. In both cases his car has blown the fuse at the alternator and shows a direct short traced back to somewhere internal to the electronics box. The first one lasted about 3 hrs and the second one even less leaving him stranded along the highway....twice.....pretty frustrating!
Does anyone out there have experience with this brand of pump voltage booster?
