Burned a hole in #3 piston locked up. No indication as to why. Was sitting at a Stoplight in the rain and it just quit. As usual the installer is way backed up and on the good side the car had not given any problems up to this point, but it is toast now.
To continue "if" his turns out to be and install problem I intend to give all the details and names plus other examples in detail in here. I pray that its something normal to be expected with mods. I am prepared to let the cards fall where they may.
BORESCOPE AND THERE AND IT IS LOCKED UP. It will not roll over with all the plugs out and a breckover bar on the pulley. It oil the plug from the bottom and hydralic locked the engine. Its been settting a month and that is not out of the regular for this shop. Its looking very ugly. There is lots more information available, But I really prefer not to persue that unless it comes to that. I don't mind buying and engine etc. BUT 1st ones my bad the second one just being a dumbass. It might work out and I hope it does but the reputation is not there .......already. I am going to give them the chance to do right before I send it to have it repaired and Blueprinted. I know of this has happened before and the results. I still have some faith but I'm not stupid or broke.
Did the installer use the Edelbrock canned engine calibration? Or was it retuned on the dyno for a more aggressive calibration. If it has Edelbrock will not be participating in any warranty on the engine. You mentioned it was idling at a stop light and the engine stopped. Was there any warning such as noise before it stopped running?
As much as i would love to blame that pos pd blower for this, the odds of the supercharger, or any supercharger for that matter being the "cause" of failure is highly unlikely unless it was running a lot of boost. This failure is most likely due to poor tuning or a fuel delivery issue. But could be many other things. It's pretty hard to blame a supercharger alone for any catastrophic failure, it's up to the owner and the tuner to set safe power limits and make sure that the car has all the supporting upgrades it needs.

Breecher, sounds like you are not a fan of the Edelbrock system. Care to elaborate?
Sorry guys ...just got back to this post. The heads are to come off the car Tuesday. I will know what gave up soon. This car was not running high boost but it did not use the canned tune. I think I will when it goes back together. No it did not give any warning at all.....it was like you turned it off. This is about the first time the car had ever been in the rain at all. The only complaint I had was the A6 had been flaring a little but was not throwing any codes. I am not sure what I will do when I find out what gave up. I have never had one quit like this. I can not say anything but good about the Blower though. I trusted the car with no problem and used it on the open road to go about anywhere. Yes motorhead Borescope.
Not too sure, but I'd assume the Edelbrock has a bypass valve on it aswell, when those fail on top mount superchargers, they create a TON of heat, which may in theory cause pinging or start melting parts.
But if all is well, its impossible to blow a hole at idle, you can run super lean/tons of timing, at most you'll hear pinging, you WILL NOT get a hole at idle.
Broken ring lands yes maybe from hydro locking the engine, would be more of an issue at idle since the piston isn't travelling fast enough to throw the oil out past the valves.
