I know my friends at the turbo shop have a special heat disappaiting coating they do on the intercoolers that is black. It is very cool looking. Needs to be a new IC though because once they get oil/etc on them it won't stick and is too much of a pain to clean to get it to work.

Anodizing is the best way to go, most durable. Paint chips off easy.

Go black anodized don't paint, got it on my car. Helps thermal transfer too, not sure it’s a measurable amount on typical application. Get a shop that knows what they are doing as to not leave acid inside…

Doesn't help, if anything it insulates, but does prevent oxidation.

Anodizing is not an insulator, it does enhance thermal transfer a bit… Google aluminum with different treatments. Also Bell intercoolers does a mild natural anodizing on higher end cores.

Take your own advice and google it. Not about to argue with you in someone elses thread.

No problems here, I went the extra mile and masked off all the fins before spraying

Skunkworks is right
Anodizing improves emissivitity over bare aluminum whether it is dyed or not.

Emissivity is radiant heat transfer, this is not what you should be looking at, unless you stuck your intercooler in your trunk and are expecting it to operate in a passive manner, in which case yea, that's what you should be concerned about.

Otherwise you should be concerned with it's conductivity, which is lowered with anodizing. But the simple fact is the difference is insignificant which is where the "if anything" comes in.
