Well I have been on the forums for a while and was trying to stay away from the FI portion because of a previous vehicle that I added a supercharger to (good and bad experiences). Somehow I talked myself back into going down the FI route with an E-Force SC.
My car is stock right now with the exception of the Vararam CAI. I am pretty sure I have to get another shroud since I had to cut mine to install the intake. Is this true and is there anything else I should do to prep the car for installation of the E-Force?
Are you a manual or automatic car? If manual plan on buying the updated alternator with the clutch style pulley of you don't have it already. Extremely common for the pd blower cars to spin the nut off the alternator pulley if you hit the Rev limiter.
It's well worth it, very common issue and I wish Edelbrock would state it in the install instructions. Some people get away with taking the nut off and using red loctite.
Just a warning, don't ever go smaller than a 3.25" pulley. I had an Eforce installed on my 08 LS3 Coupe in March 2013. My motor blew last Sunday. I'm not sure if too much boost was the problem, but I had a 3" pulley on my car and about 11lbs of boost. Needless to say, the entire motor and Eforce are now a pile of aluminum scrap.
Only really an issue with the PD blowers. For some reason they like to put some wierd back torque on the belt, probably because the rotors don't slow down quick enough when letting off at high speed.
When did cars start getting the updated alternator Joe?
That I don't know, however as of late all replacement gm alternators have been coming with the clutch style pulley. We had a 07 manual c6 come in that I gave the last 8 of the vin to them and the clutch style came. I called and they told me it superceded the old one. Have not had another car as of late need a new alternator to do this again and verify.
You will need a new radiator shroud. Take a look at my thread I started about a month ago. Also, look at the instructions for the install and it will list some items needed. Decide on which method you want to use to pin the crank. And also think about how you will remove the harmonic balancers bolt. Otherwise, it is pretty straight forward, just plan on a few days. Also, it is heavy so you will need another person to help you lift it on the engine.
