Hey just picked up a 2007 vette. Im new to the corvette world so trying to find out a bit of information here on the forum. I am use to tunner cars had an evo gsr and an mr and a talon tsi. All three cars had built motors trans and full bolt ons and ended up blowing up all three of them so needless to say i switched to a v8 lol. So a question i have is before modding my car with bolt ons tune supercharger or turbos do i need to upgrade the motor and tranny first or are they solid enough on these cars to handle the mods. Thanks in advance for any input.
This is a very touchy subject with some people. Everyone will tell you something different. My experience...I ran a A&A supercharger kit for almost 2 years putting down 600rwhp. Upgraded clutch and rear end cause I have a 05. This year I upgraded to a blower cam and meth injection...717rwhp. Stock motors and Trans. Many have run this kind of power for many years. I don't drive my car hard, at the track, or as a daily driver. I maybe put 1500 miles a year on it and it holds up just fine. The tune is the most important part of the setup. Good luck and welcome to the corvette world.
Depends on many things... How many miles are on the car? Any idea how it has been driven?
What do you want out of it, and how do you plan to use it?
How much power are you looking for?
Answer those questions and it will likely be self evident. If you're planning to drive it relatively conservative and not track much at all, and are looking for modest horsepower gains, then if it hasn't been beat and doesn't have excessive miles you should be OK with a mild SC bolt on.
If you're looking for more, or are planning to drive it hard often, then you will want to harden accordingly.
The LS motors are well made and pretty resilient, as are the drive trains, and can take some pretty good abuse.

Merry Christmas!
Good point. I put the supercharger on when it had 16k on it and it now has 20k. I consider it a well taken care of car as I'm OCD and made sure everything was done right.
There is 48 000 km on the car and not really sure how it was driven, I picked it up at a used dealer and it is still there. There is 5 feet of snow on the ground here so cant really drive it tell the summer. As for how much power well I was thinking on bolt ons and tune for this summer then either supercharger or twin turbos for next summer. I know things will break eventually stock or modded so just wondering if I should upgrade the motor and trans and stuff before modding to help make her stronger is kind of what im getting at.
Most of what I've seen, you can mod away till 700-800 hp before you NEED to forge. Of course the higher you go, the higher the risk. Six speed trans and rear should be good on your car for a while before you need to upgrade unless you plan launch the car hard. I ran my car at 700 hp for a while with stock motor, had to replace the rear because my car is an 05 and I blew it apart but the 07 has a better housing than mine had.
