If you do hook it hard in first gear, be prepared to shift to second QUICK. You'll figure it out after a pass or two. I hit the rev limit the first time it hooked with little or no tire spin. That's on a 10 sec pass and standard C6 gearing. A 9 sec pass with Z51 gearing....you're going to be shifting your a$$ off
this theoretical stuff is nonsense. The track doesn't lie - which is why people like to post dyno numbers and not track times. The car is only as fast as you can drive it. It could be 12s and it could be 9s. put a good tire on it and go to the track .. I seriously doubt you'll be low 10s given it's a stick car.

Or perhaps some of us live like 150 miles from the closest 1/4 track.

I agree, tach lags a few hundred rpms with my measely power though I have 4.10s that cause it to climb faster, but you have to be on your toes for a 2.8 0-60mph with a shift and recommend shifting by ear with anticipation.
What 1/4 mile time and trap speed do you think my car is capable of in the hands of a really good driver and proper tires?

The motor makes 9 second power, but I'd be happy with 10.60s or better at 135 or better the first time out on good tires. To go 9s is going to take seat time and you need to lose the fear of braking the car.
*2. Doing things by ear can be sketchy at the track when you have a helmet on and are running next to an open header car.
I think shifting a little too soon is actually far better than bumping off the rev limiter. You're going to be at 100% of full boost after the shift anyway. A shift dead nuts on at 6500 rpm vs a shift 500 rpm quicker at 6K....I'm thinking there wouldn't be a huge amount of difference at the end of the track.
The best I ever did with a similar setup and 50 hp less than the OP was 10.8 at 133. That was with a rather solf 1.88 short time. I only take my vette to the track a couple of times a year. More seat time and an "I'm going to go fast or break something" attitude would have me in the mid 10's. Maybe better with some good air. My best was done with a DA of 2500'.

I use the skip shift light as my shift light set a couple hundred rpms early of the rev limiter Thought we were talking about running at a single lane track rental not TNT night
On another note, my hat goes off to the guys back in the day who used to shift a manual w/o a rev limiter!
I've routinely driven 150-200 miles each way to tracks I enjoy. Maybe I'm unique?
Not at all. I have done it for many years. You have to to get to run some decent tracks. I find it very satisfying to drive my car to a track run some pretty good numbers, most of mine have been 10-11 or 12 sec passes, but then drive that same car home and to work every single day. That's the challenge for me. I haven't ever tried to have a 9 sec or quicker car because I drive mine and roll bars and street driving don't go together very well. Fender benders beome life takers and at 9 sec or quicker breaking things become regular business, for a true street car anyway.

I have WAY more 11sec passes than 10sec passes. What is consistant about my vette is that I ALWAYS have a good time at the track. If I was obsessed/concerned about the number, I wouldn't be chasing said number in a really nice vette. The guys at the track, that I've known for years, always get a good chuckle out of one of my less than stellar 11sec passes. I do too

Any pass that's completed without breaking is a good one in my books, the great ones are just icing on the cake
