I would think the 54.5" belt would be plenty long enough. That's what I have with a 3.5" pulley and 10% od balancer. I did notice that the washer on the curved slot behind the blower is too big and hits one of the spacers when you try to move the adjustable idler to the slack position to install the belt. You might check and see if this is keeping you from being able to install the shorter belt. Just something to look at.

We tried and tried getting the belt on. The closest we could get it was just over the bolt hold the supercharger pulley.

That's what I thought. So no reason he shouldn't be able to use the 54.5" belt I use when we have the same balancer and I have a bigger blower pulley. That's why I mentioned the washer that doesn't allow the adjustable idler to move all the way to the slack position. That's what kept me from getting my belt on at first and I'm sure some people might not notice it.
Guess what's alive?! Got everything bolted up and went over everything probably ten times. Started it up and let it idle for about 2 minutes. All belts looked aligned and nothing leaked that I could see. Was up till 4am so I'm calling it a night. I'll start fresh tomorrow or the next day before I take it off the jack stands.

And used to drive to Akron/canton everyday to hit the gym and eat. Not often I hear people mention either place.
