Default problems with ECS install

started my install today. Removing rack wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. Anyways.... going by ECS install directions, it says to reinstall rack before installing the main tensioner. uh..... thats a negative.

I got the rack put back in and had all the lines buttoned up. Went to install the tensioner, absolutely no room. Lucky all it took was dropping the cradle on the right side all the way down past the studs and was able to cram it in.
The problem.....I installed a new Summit balancer. When I was looking at pulley alignments, I noticed the new balancer was 8 rib. No biggie, I'll run the belt on the outside ribs. But the tensioner pulley looks way off.
What do I need to do?

What do you guys think? Looks like 6 rib belt may barely fit

Mine is like that and it has been like that for the past 5-7k miles. If you decide to later on do the 8 rib then you may have to do something about it. I dont remember if that tensioner is adjustable.

I think you can pull it off and add a shim or washer when u pull off pulley.. It prob wont matter but who knows.. Its def off 1 rib..

Mine looks about the same.. belt will be towards the back of the pulley by design, but you can adjust it some if you want

"real" 8 rib balancers will add two ribs to the front of the pulley I'm pretty sure, thus the pullies are setup for that

I would just get the 8 rib kit from A&A and be done with it while ur at it.. Should be like $600 because you already have crank pulley..

Looks like you need to adjust the tensioner bracket at the bottom. Turning the piece that screws into the bottom of the bracket and fits against the ac tensioner is how you adjust the tensioner pulley alignment.

so... in other words, I may have too much pretension on the ac tensioner. therefore, tweaking the outer bracket the main tensioner is bolted to?

I still think it's fine. Mine is the same way. The extra 2 ribs normally go towards the front of the car. The pullies are setup for that, not the 8 rib balancer you're running which has the extra 2 towards the rear (assuming it's c2501)

You would run e A&A 8 rib? He has a ECS kit. Is the A&A set up better?

That doesnt looks right to me, but ill know any time soon now, since i finished the alky control install late last night! Let me know how it turned out for you. I really hope the blower install will be more "bolt on" than the ECS meth kit, what a MAJOR pita!!!!

Notice the left side of the pulley lines up with the wear mark on the water pump..

That is adjustable. Adjust the tensioner until it lines up. Now hard at all.

Won't work at all. Those balancers add the ribs to the back side of the pulley. Even if we (or ECS) had pulleys to line up with those ribs, the belt would hit the water pump. I have no idea why they make them that way at all.

Our tensioner also looks like it's offset when using one of those balancers.

Exactly..

Not trying to make this A&A vs. ECS, but the ECS pullies are that wide because they are already setup for 8 ribs. The belt will likely be on the rear portion fo the pullies.. that is normal. The back two ribs on that balancer are useless; forget they are even there. It works fine as a 6 rib--I've been using the same one for almost a year with no issues with the balancer after I got my alignment right

It does look angled a little funky though.. there's a lock nut on the opposite end of the tensioner that you can loosen then adjust the angle of the tensioner.

Even so, from the picture it looks like bottom of tensioner needs to come out so it isn't tilted forward. That is what the adjustement on the bracket is for. Maybe it is just the picture.

I did a little adjusting on the tensioner pulley today. Finally got it running. Still have a few things to iron out.
Since it is my daily driver and I had to get it off the lift at work, I had to by-pass a few things until next weekend. Never got my tune from Matt. So, I still need that before new injectors are installed and still need to wire up my BAP. Like you guys, I will have to tidy a few things up as time permits.
Mine is a Z51 m6. The boot coming from the compressor that goes to the intercooler sure got sandwiched in between my power steering cooler and the sway bar. I have no clue how that is going to effect things.

There is also some rattle sound coming from the compressor at idle. Is that normal?

Yeah its a tight fit.. I bent some of the oil lines a bit to help not squash it as bad but it still has stuff pushing on it. I doubt it will make much difference.

Which injectors? I can send you the base file Matt sent me if you have HP Tuners. You can copy the fuel injector data over. That's about all you need to get it started with the larger injectors.
