Default Maggie 112 need help changing pulley

I really want to swap the pulley but have had zero luck so far. It is a keyed pulley. Tried a heavy duty belt wrench I borrowed from my mechanic not even close. I had him try as well and nothing. Cant break it free. I read that you dont want to use impact wrench but I dont see any other way......

anyone with experience ?

I can't see how using an impact wrench to loosen the nut would hurt anything. I'd use it with the belt installed and tensioned.

I always used an impact wrench to take them off. Never a problem. It impacts once or twice and spins it right off. That is, unless someone lock tighted it on. Just don't put the new one back on with an impact.

I can save you a phone call to Magnuson. They will tell you not to use an impact. People do it all the time though. They will also tell you not to run meth or mixtures through the rotors. People do that all the time too with no ill effects.

Just got email from Magnuson

you can try leaving the belt on and use a ratchet, you CAN use an impact just not to tighten it , it can cause damage to the bearing on the shaft is all. You will want to torque it to 45 ft lbs unless it doesn't line up then go up in increments of 5 ft lbs until its lined up

Kool. I'm glad Magnuson joined the real world on this one. What size pulley did you start with and what size when you're done?

Yeah was a relief. The car came with a 3.0 on it. Blower has a 1:1 rear pulley. Makes 7 PSI max boost. On my LS2 GTO (same as Vette) I had a Maggie 112 and went from 2.8 down to a 2.6 with good results (did not have 1:1 on rear). Boost went up to 9 PSI on that setup. Car pulled a lot better. and consistently dropped a couple tenths at track. Car ran a little leaner but didnt produce any KR so I didnt even have to retune it. More power from the added boost and running little leaner. Now that car only had shorty headers. This car has mild blower cam, ported stock heads and long tube headers. I would expect similar increase in boost and be at 9-10 Max. Will have to see about KR. Planning on running water chiller or meth on it before summer.

In warm weather I have a heck of a time getting these Invo tires to spin even from a stop....... Needs more power. I think it really needs more low end grunt. Lots of breathing mods for topend.

Your cam may be a little more top end oriented. Lack of low end power usually is not a complaint with the 112 on an LS2. Smaller pulley should pick up the power everywhere though. Some intercooler upgrades might be a good idea. A Heartbeat heat exchanger would help keep IAT's in check better than the one that came with your kit.

I wouldnt say the lowend is lacking. I am just used to a lot of TQ. My old E55 puts out over 600 TQ to wheels. The Vette gets slower 0-60s by a couple tenths than my E55 and the E55 would do even better with larger tires. Best Vette has gotten is 3.8 sec with 345 tires out back. R compound 275mm street tires on Benz I had a best of 3.4 but consistently ran 3.5-3.6. Traction was still a big issue with those tires. I really expected the Vette to beat those times even at 7 PSI given its huge tires. I'll settle for matching those times once I get more boost on her. Top end the Vette pulls little harder than the E atleast.
