Do it at your own risk on the street. For limited use on the track, you can get away with it.
A friend did it on the street and the debris that it permitted to get through ruined the impeller over time. Also, another friend did it, the screen became dislodged somehow and made its way into the blower and got shredded, destroying the impeller in the process. I personally saw the chunks it ripped out of the impeller.
All of that said, I am still likely to run without filters but with some type of screen in place at the track only and only if the track is clean. In my opinion, a max effort attempt without filters on a dirty track just to set a personal best number isn't worth the risk of ruining expensive components. I would never consider doing it on the street (unless there is a reward that is worth the risk).

Agreed with Canuk.
I swap to an airaid race filter for race days, but that is as far as I would go.

my setup is a little different because the d1 blower is so maxed out but I was surprised when I tested a 4" blox velocity stack and filter versus a bigger velocity stack with no air filter and the power difference was negligible

I run a 4" turbo guard screen on my Paxton 2200 coyote. Car isn't daily driven but I haven't had any issues so far. Plus the 2200 on the mustang is a very tight fit under the hood so it's pretty hard for water or any debris to get in there anyways. I know it's a different car but same concept.

do a bell mouth instead. I pick up 165 rwhp and 105 rwtq going from my 4'' air inlet setup to a tiny little vibrant bell mouth, I have a overspun novi 2200R btw. I won't run the bell mouth on the street for any extended time only if i'm going out with the intent of running someone. but at a half mile event you bet it's on there
